Last (2008) year I made an mistake by logging on to the internet banking website and accidentally reducing my overdraft facility by almost R6000. Needless to say, this put me in a very bad Financial predicament. I contact Standard bank, and after a long battle they have agreed to re-instate my overdraft to what it was on condition that they will reduce it by R1500/month until I have reached R3500 overdraft. Close to the end of last year I decreased my overdraft to the required amount of R3500. When I logged in to Internet Banking again at the end of February I noticed that the reduction order is still active. My overdraft is now at -R15.00. I contacted the bank and according to them there was no such agreement made to be reduced to R3500. This means that I was lied to when my overdraft was re-instated. They cant help me re-instating the overdraft via the telephone (understandably). What I would like to know is how on earth can an employee of a bank make false promises! Disgusting!!!
