First, I'll admit I was a dummy and just plain stupid for allowing myself to be suckered into this. A guy (very personable and low-key) approached me in the parking lot of a Lowe's store. His story was that he worked for a home theater system installer. He had just picked up and delivered a system to a customer. The hook was that when he picked up the system from the wholesaler, the wholesaler gave him extra systems, beyond what he had ordered, because the wholesaler mistakenly thought that each system consisted of four boxes, not two (which is actually the case). So, the installer had a couple of "extra" home theater systems that he would sell me really "cheaply." A clue to this fraud was that a "MSRP" was printed on the box = $3659 for the model DX-706. The installer wanted $1000 for it. I said I would give him $500, expecting he would not take it. After some talk, I walked away, and then he said he would take the $500 (how could I have been so stupid?). The only thing "cheap" about this deal is the equipment. It is very heavy, which was a factor in my stupid decision, but that means nothing. I hooked up two speakers, along with the sub-woofer. The sound is terrible. Even the speaker wire is very poorly made. An item I might keep as a reminder of my gullibility is a box in which was provided three foot long "audio" cables. There are three cables with red, blue and green connectors. These are obviously component video cables, not audio cables. The "MSRP" is marked on the plastic package. It is $159 !!!
