Awful experience
I recently rented a living room set from RAC. I was hesitant about renting it after a friend of mine told me that they delivered a bed to him and brought *** roaches into his house. I have been a very good costumer for over 10 years. I spoke with the manager and he assured me that it was the other store that had delivered the bed (there are two stores in my town Hornell NY) He also assured me that the problem was taken care of. Last night a little over a week of having the furniture I noticed a bug crawling on my wall heading to a swag hanging on my wall. I yelled to my husband that I wanted to know if this was a *** roach. He is from mexico so I knew he would know if it was or not because I didn't know what they looked like. It sure was and it was carrying eggs. I was so pissed I tried to call the store but it was already closed this was just last night and today is Sunday and they are not open. I don't know what to do because I had them take away my old furniture when they brought the new furniture. I know that they will send someone to get rid of them but its the fact that they are not doing there jobs for something like this to happen. I am not paying to have these disgusting bugs brought into my house. I plan to go to the papers and to the health department regarding this problem. Who knows how many other people have had *** roaches brought into their house and don't realize it yet. They obviously have an infestation in there store especially since my furniture came directly from the store floor. I would like to know what the policy is supposed to be when an item is returned to the store. You would think that they spray the stuff or do something knowing that there is a possibility of something like this happening. When I am done letting people know what is going on I will be surprised if anyone does business with RAC again!!!

Unsolicited phone calls
We are being harassed by rent a center. They keep calling our home at least 5 to 6 times a day but from different numbers back to back. The same day our first bill was do they called us early that morning. When rent a center delivered my bed room set they didn't even put it together. no bed rails.

I was a week behind on my payment and i asked if i could pay on the second of October and i was told no. I was threaten, by rent a center saying that they were going to come with the police department.

Unauthorized billing
I am so made at rac because i am missing money that i paid on my account and they keep telling me a different balance that is higher and that is not right even though i have three kids and trying to make a honest living with rac stealing your money as you make payments and thats not right. Also i had the granite city driver Robby do a road rage on me in collinsville on october 2nd 2008 about 10;30am about total my truck and i think that was bogus which i kind wish it would have happened then that means they would have to cover that for sure.

Fraud and cheating
My house was broken into and they stole my laptops. Now rent a center does not to replace my laptop. Because we moved and didn't provide them with the address. Now they are saying that we have to pay for the laptop that they do not want to replace it. This company is just out to get your money when is not even your fault.

Awful company
I have rented from rent a cent, for more than a year now, I make my payments before they are do, If you rent from rent a center it is because you don"t have the money to by it cash just like me bad credit and no money yes we by at your own risk but you have no other options so if you can't pay for it call them to pick it up stop b*ll sh**** about it and if you don't than don't complain about them hunting you down. That's there job.

Terrible experience
I rented a washer and dryer and today I took a $25.00 money order and $4.63 in cash, to pay a late fee on the washer and dryer since I was a couple days late. Romone at the Leano St. Elyria, Ohio 44035, He refused the payment and brought the money and was trying to leave it on the side walk at the store that I had left to pay the bill. I owe CashEvantage and they said since I owe CashEdvantage that they can refuse payment for the washer and dryer. It is two separate businesses. How can they do this?

Scam and cheating
I have bought things w/RAC before w/no problems. I went to the one in Medford, OR where I was living. Bought a TV, stereo and printer. I went in with a week left on my 90 days on the stereo to pay it off in cash, they told me I had missed it by 4 days even though I had the original receipt and contract with the managers signature on it saying otherwise. It took them 3 months to get me the printer and charged me during that time for printer. I got pissed over the stereo and told them to come pick it all up. I had been a good paying customer always. When I told them to pick it up, they begged me to keep the products. I told them *** no, I was going to their competition across town. I told them if they didn't come get it I was going to come drop it in the middle of their store. They picked it up finally and now they keep sending me these stupid coupons for what I had paid on the products towards a new product but only if I take a contract and more than 90 days. I have advised them repeatedly to quit sending me their crap because I'm tired of finding it in my mailbox and me having to put it in my garbage can. I WILL not go back to them EVER! I'd much rather go to Aarons who at least reports when you make timely payments to your credit report AND if you have to move where you can't take the products with you, they transfer ALL the money that you paid into it to the new store for the same product. Screw RAC!

violation FDCP; fraudulent actions
I have been an ongoing customer since 1999, whenever I've purchased an item I've always asked for a "new" product. My 1st purchase was unavailable so I was given a "temporary" leather sofa & love seat until the new one arrived. In the meantime I made weekly payments. After 2 months or so, the new items never arrived so I returned the used items. Instead of receiving a refund, I was told the money paid would be applied to my next purchase. This was trough the Paramount, CA store. In 2004 I went to the Whittier, CA store to buy a sofa & love seat, I explained of the pending credit. They promptly called the store verified the credit but for some unknown reason they couldn't transfer the credit & apply to the purchase (approximately $268.00). I get the items anyway, how long could it take anyway? Then I go on to buy other items. When I purchased a big screen TV in 2003 it began to get a snowy picture for about 15 minutes then the picture would clear up. I asked Rent A Center to have it serviced (Sept. 2007) & they agreed. in the meantime they agreed to "loan" me a TV while my TV was in service. This went on for months. In Nov. 2007 I'm being told that I have to pay on the TV, it will cost me about $800.00 (it's a used TV), the tech's can't seem to fix my TV, the part is now obsolete??? So I agree to make payments in the hope's that my TV will be repaired or returned. When I told them I would send it for repairs, they refused, I need to let them make every effort to repair the TV. About the same time I had purchased a camera and it would open the lens sometimes so when I took it in, they gave me a "loaner", they also couldn't repair it so theybtold me to keep the loaner. Since 1999 I have purchased a living room set, the TV, DVD player, camera, refrigerator, recliner, an entertainment center, all these items have a "zero" balance. The items I currently owe are the "loaner" TV which now I'm told I must pay the full price, if that's the case deliver a new TV, a washer & dryer and a laptop. I have always paid the weekly payment, this has been a hard year, I've had to move due to the rentals going into foreclosure, job closing down & losing a part-time job.
I have tried to make partial payments, but they're refused. When I come up with the weekly amount I have been asked to pay 1-2 days extra until I come in the following Saturday. Before the week is up my cellphone is blown out with their calls 3-5 times a day, not mention them banging on my door at home, leaving up to 3 missed you today notices on the door, gate & mailbox. They stand at the gate for up to 10 minutes yelling out my name.
The month of August 2008 was the worst, they repeatedly drive by, I made an arrangement with the manager to come up with funds, I told him I was working late and going to the hospital. I took a break for dinner, came home to change & eat. A few minutes after I arrived Carlos was at my door demanding that I surrender the items. I told him no, because I had an arrangement w/Jonathan the manager. He called the store, Jonathan got the call and told me that it was in their best of interest to pick up the items, they would return them when I could afford the payments. Carlos remains outside my house in the truck for about 15 minutes before leaving and parked on the wrong side of the street. I refused, how could I believe this when they still owe me money from 1999? And they still have my TV in service.Well we ended the call knowing that I was going to to pay. Then Carlos and Sonia start calling my job, 2-3 times a day, I talk w/Carlos and tell him to quit calling me at work, calls are monitored and randomly recorded. He doesn't care, he's going to keep calling me til I get tired and pay. I end the call. Tuesday comes and Carlos is physically at my job and the 1st thing out of his mouth is "give me the laptop"! Well I don't have it at work and tell him this. He is not happy, he'll continue to call me everyday until I surrender the items. Now I've made up my mind to contact the rent a center corporate office. On Saturday Sonia drives to my house, I told her I was very upset with this whole situation, I was going to file a complaint. Once this was settled, I would handle the situation. Until then I wasn't going to make any payments.
On Monday morning Carlos calls me again at work. I told that I have repeatedly asked him not to call me and he just ignores this. he stated that he heard I was fling a complaint that would I please hurry up, because until corporate told him to stop he wasn't going to. That instead of filing a complaint why didn't I just call the corporate office, it would be faster.
I did file a complaint with Rent A Center by certified mail, I have my return receipt.
I also mailed a copy of the complaint to the Better Business Bureau, but because it was a copy they have closed the issue. When I tried to file a complaint they directed me to several sites which might handle the complaint.
The manner in which they collect payments is unfair, violation of the privacy act when they come to your home yelling and job stating they're there to collect money or items in the open area where your neighbors and co-worker's are able to hear the conversations. They're in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act when you have specifically asked an employee who is collecting a debt to stop contacting you at work as this can put your job in danger and they refuse to acknowledge the request, as a matter of fact they're in violation of my civil rights.
Rent A Center has not contacted since receiving the certified letter or as I write this complaint.

service
I have been a customer with rent a center for 3 1/2 years and have a fridge paid off and the whole time we had it, we had to send it in for service 5 or six times. the store did nothing to rectify this and we still had to send it back more. This last time that we sent it back it came back from head to toe with mold in both the freezer and refrigarator section. It took us three hours to clean and all our food was unthawed by then. we are now calling aarons which will cut our payments in half and hopefully will not send us a health hazard back to our home. just say no to rent a center.

Mgr. Emry Grayson
I rented a refridgerator, paid a payment, the next time I paid for one month, this time when it was due, I was a few days late, the Mgr. Emry Grayson sent two of his people to pick it up, however upon their arrival I had the money to pay and to keep the refridgerator another two weeks, after that time I will not be needing a rental refridgerator, I talked to him and he refused to let me keep it even though I had the money and it was full of food, about $150.00 worth of food. He was very nasty to me, his speech was slurred, he was not making complete sense and the he proceeded to hang up on me, I was not being rude to him, I just couldn't afford to lose my food. I am filing this complaint on behalf of myself and my daughter, I will also be seeking the $150.00 to replace my food.
