I bought several items during the Christmas season under a promotion from Robinson’s May. The promotion was 20% off all items purchased that day when opening a new credit card. This amount was to be applied directly to my credit balance and was not going to be shown on my receipts that day. An additional 1520% off applied to purchase that day as well through a coupon used in conjunction with my new Robinsons May card. That additional 15-20% off was to show (and did) on that day’s receipts. Therefore all items were to be a total of 35%-40% off

I was very upset when I got my statement and did not see the additional 20% that was to be applied to the card’s balance applied. I called Robinson’s May immediately and was told that there was a “mistake in their billing department” and the adjustments had not been applied.

Luckily there was not much I had to do to get this corrected as they told me on the phone what my corrected balance owed was and put in a request to their billing department to adjust the price by 20% and send me a new statement.

My concern is what would have happened should I not have called? Would my 20% off that I was promised simply be forgotten. Therefore, Robinsons May could be saving a whole lot of money from anyone who does not scrutinize this bill further – and I feel Robinsons May may have not made a “mistake” at all but intentionally run this promotion this way. Similar to the hope that people won’t cash in their rebates.

I am sending in my payment for the adjusted amount as told my the account rep was my new balance. I have been told that if this is received by the next billing due date, no finance charges will apply & my card will be paid off. If there is an error in their accounting, this will remain an ongoing problem.
