I purchased the 2.0 USB portable external drive in Sept 2010 and it's now, only 5 months later, stopped working. My computer does not recognize it and it does not power on. I followed the troubleshooting instructions on Seagate's website and replaced the cable (at an additional cost to me!) with no luck. The website directs you to a data recovery site, where they want to charge $700-$2500 to recover my data!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????????? I'm reporting them to the BBB.
