In the heart of Rathmines, Shaku Maku is a place where every dish tells a story and every bite is rooted in family. Roughly translated, Shaku Maku means “What’s the story?” — or perhaps everything and nothing all at once.
Our journey begins with my grandmother’s humble recipes from the south of Palestine, lovingly passed down through generations. From there, we draw inspiration from my wife’s Lebanese heritage in the fertile Beka’a Valley, embracing vibrant flavours, generous small plates, and a deep respect for vegetarian cooking. Time spent in Yemen shaped our approach to rice, while Greece became an unexpected crossroads where Middle Eastern traditions met Western influence.
