I received a call from a telemarketer who promised a "gasoline credit card" to be used at any gas station if I would review the marketing materials that would be sent to me in the mail. My credit card was charged for membership in not one, but two, "savings plans" and there was no "credit card" for gas included. After talking with a rep, I was told that my membership would be discounted, my credit card credited with the memberships fees, and that I would be able to use the $5 rebate coupons after sending in gas receipts, no more than one per month, for 12 months. Of course, I had two memberships for which I did not enroll, so I was promised twice that, or $120 total for the year.
After sending in two months' worth of gas receipts and the completed necessary forms and waiting the "possible 6-8 weeks", I have not received the rebate monies to date. The website (www.myshopperdiscount.com) does not open and I've not been able to speak with anyone by phone.
I was told when I cancelled my membership that there had been many such calls as mine, from people having been tricked into memberships with the promise of the gas credit cards for just reviewing product information. I was told that my complaint would be reported and that my cancellation would not effect my qualifying for and receiving the rebates.
I'm extremely angry at the time I have put into discontinuing something I never agreed to and completing and sending in coupon forms and gas receipts as instructed and not receiving what was promised!! Do I have any recourse?
