Awful experience
We are in Portland, OR and the weather has been poor. I paid for 2-day delivery with guaranteed arrival today, December 24.
Through the online tracking service, I was able to see that both purchases arrived at UPS Portland at noon yesterday, December 23. It is now after 5p on guaranteed delivery date, December 24, and nothing. I rechecked the UPS tracking site and my delivery has now been moved to two days from now, the day AFTER Christmas!
I understand that weather is bad, however, FedEx and the U.S. Post Office (USPS) have been making deliveries since yesterday, and USPS is even making deliveries on Christmas Day to make sure everyone gets their deliveries in time. If FedEx and USPS have found a way to meet their delivery promises, then why isn’t it important enough to UPS to find a way to do the same?!!

Simply awful
I ordered a tent from Amazon.com to be delivered to my home. About 10 days later (Wednesday) I get home to see an InfoNotice on my front door saying "signature required on delivery". The next day (thursday) I called UPS and was told that if I signed the back of the InfoNotice and left it where I found it, that the driver would leave the package. That night I came home to another InfoNotice placed next to the original. Thinking that the driver might have thought that I never saw the first, I signed the second AND wrote a note stating that I had signed both notices and to please leave my package and placed it on my door the next day(Friday). That night I get home to see the final attempt notice on the door. So I call UPS again(on Saturday)and speak with someone that can only tell me that my package is being returned to sender and I have to call the shipper to arrange for it to be sent again. I ask if there is any way to lodge a formal complaint, seeing how UPS screwed up and now my tent is not going to be here in time for my trip. She ways she will have someone call me on Monday. This morning I wake up and there is a voicemail from UPS telling me that it's up to the driver's discretion wether to leave a package or not. This person left no name or # to call her back. And NO...it is not up to the driver. When a customer not only is told they can sign the notice but it says RIGHT THERE on the back of it to sign for the pacakge to be left, and a note is written clearly asking for the package to be left, the package SHOULD BE LEFT! To get a call from some uppity supervisor telling me that the driver refused to leave it because I live in apartment is beyond maddening! That should not be up to the driver! I paid for the package and I know what kind of building I live in. If I tell you to leave it, leave it. What's even more infuriating is that I work for a mortgage company and we use UPS to ship closing documents to our customers. These packages include sensitive information like SSN's and I get a customer complaint once a week about how UPS left their package in an apartment lobby or at the wrong address or something!!! So they can leave confidential information out there for anyone to grab but they can't leave a $30 tent!!! I will never, ever use UPS again. They are horrible, inept and rude and the rest of the world should know!

Incorrect Classificaiton of Items
I ordered online a few books from a company in the States and the delivery was made by UPS. UPS incorrectly classified the books as autoparts and I was required to pay a brokerage fee of $60+ dollars and the Canadian taxes. I complained to UPS and they admitted their fault and refunded the overpaid taxes but not the brokerage fees. It turned out that I have to pay $60 brokerage fee on top of the $240 worth of books. I have never been in that situation when I order books from the States. It was purely UPS fault. I will never use them and avoid any online companies that use UPS. I find US Mail much better.

2nd day delivery not received on 5th day
I was supposed to receive small package ( A/C part )from PA on 26th June 2009 - 2nd Day Air -
They routed my package to go to MA., instead of Tx.
on calling UPS, they said they are sorry but package will not arrive till 29th June 2009
on 29th june I called UPS at 2pm since I still did not have package..I called again..
Answer...they will deliver before 7 pm. ...I hope so?
that means you can not leave the home untill 7 pm otherwise you may miss the delivery person
and have to repeat the whole thing next day.. considering this
I think U.S.P.S. looks a lot better because I received my invoice by U.S.postal service faster than
part I ordered 2nd day Air from UPS. ...so next time use FedEx or USPS. instead

Delivery
Is it too much for the "alternative delivery arrangement option" on the UPS website to actually work? I've tried to use it a dozen times only to tell me it isn't available at this time. REALLY?!?
I cant be at home from 2-5 pm to receive packages! That is in the middle of the frigging work day, UPS! Why is it so hard to get that the work day runs from 9-5 with a hour each way for commuting?
Residential deliveries should come AFTER 5:30pm!
You cant get some drivers to work that late?????

Terrible Organization
Imagine depending on the timely arrival of a package that contains a much needed paycheck. You are willing to pay the extra for overnight shipping. It leaves Thursday, you're told it will be there on Friday. Great! Come Friday afternoon, you discover that someone forgot to put it on the plane for overnight delivery. Ok...so you get a little upset, and they assure you it will be there on Saturday, before noon. Guaranteed delivery, they say. In the past, Saturday deliveries have been botched by the non-routine drivers (they have different drivers on Saturdays apparently) who, for some reason, are unable to find a house in the middle of a huge sub-division.
So, you inform them of the address, and directions, and you provide a phone number for the driver to contact in case he has issues on Saturday. As the customer, you're doing all you can do. Come Saturday morning, you're anxious for your paycheck to be received, and are constantly checking the tracking number via the website. Lo and behold, come 9:20 am, the driver YET AGAIN. And even though you informed them of past issues with the Saturday driver, and gave them all the necessary contact information in case their were problems, the driver somehow manages to not care, or is inadequate enough to follow simple GPS directions.
So, when you find out that the driver couldn't find your house, you try and call UPS again to hopefully get ahold of the driver to find your place. It does say "A CORRECT STREET NUMBER IS NEEDED FOR DELIVERY. UPS IS ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN THIS INFORMATION ", but the funny thing is that during the week, noone has a problem with my street number or address. DHL or FedEx doesn't have a problem finding my driveway, and UPS doesn't have a problem with standard shipping, but for some reason, when I need a package sent overnight, they are unable to find my house, or something else goes wrong.
Do not, I repeat, do not utilize UPS overnight delivery if you actually want your package to be sent overnight.

poor customer service
Made an appointment to pick up packages between 8-8:30 P.M.
Found the place, sign on door said closed at 6 P.M. - confused to say the least.
There was a UPS guy inside so we knocked on the door glass to ask if this was the right place.
The UPS guy inside went around and came out behind us and went ape angry on us.
Got in our faces and was yelling, waving arms about, something about knocking on his glass.
We thought the UPS employee was going to punch us.
Other UPS employees gathered around but said nothing.
What crappy customer interaction, I have never in my 50+ years seen anything like it.
Just add a little sign on your door for god sake and get this guy (no name tag) some anger management help.

Where's my package???
Don't you love it when you get a package but don't know who has it? UPS delivered a package that required a signature but since I wasn't home, got a stranger to sign and take the package. Then the driver didn't tell me where the package was only left a tracking number. So tracking the package I found out the day it was delivered and the name signed but no further information. I live in a high-rise with hundreds of condos so it could be anywhere! I have been round and round with UPS people who keep telling me they don't know where it is either.
Here's a thought, maybe the freaking driver might have a clue.
They are very frustrating to deal with and have sucked any common sense out of their employeers so customers are left to deal with mindless, clueless "workers". Honestly, I would love to see companies run like UPS go out of business.

Damaged Telescope
Recently in May 2009 I had a Meade Starfinder Equatorial telescope shipped to a buyer in New York. The optical tube was shipped in a custom wood crate. When the crate arrived the outside trim along the lid was ripped off, the side wall was broken away from the crates frame, both optical mirrors were shattered, viewfinder ripped off, and the motor drive cover was shattered. The reciever took pictures of the damages and emailed them to me. I then filed a claim through UPS for damages and was told no insurance was put on the telescope. Which I understand is my fault. Reguardless if any insurance was put on the telescope UPS should take better care of peoples packages. When the telescope finally arrived at the UPS store I was told all they would give me is $100 when it was valued at $494. There excuse was is that it had no additional insurance on the package. I will never ship anything through these assholes. My next step is taking them to small claims court where I live

Package left on a sidewalk
Ok, I had my fair share of bad times with UPS(all involved missed deliveries and claiming I was not at home) but nothing like that before. I only use UPS when it's the only option that online seller offers you.
I was waiting for a delivery which was suposed to come from 10 am - 2 pm. Having not received anything I decided to come downstairs to see if they slapped a note on the door again claiming that I wasn't at home (I live in a condo with an intercom). So it turned out the intercom was broken that day which I wasn't aware of. I found my package lying near the entrance of my condo! It was practically on the sidewalk. Any random person could have picked it up and it was worth 140$ of computer equipment. I don't understand how they could just drop a package that REQUIRES a signature. I always provide both cell and home numbers but they never call like Fed Ex or DHL do (if there's a problem with delivery). I'm glad I was lucky that it was still there when I came down. It's a mistery to me why so many online sellers use UPS as an only option.
