Terrible internet
If you are considering ordering high-speed broad-band TV and Internet service from Verizon's fiber optics system (FiOS), there is something that you should know that Verizon forgets to tell you.
You've all heard by now that in Feb.2009, if you use antenna TV on a TV that does not have a digital tuner (most older TVs do not), you will no longer be able to use it unless you buy a digital to analog converter box. The government has a coupon program to help offset the one-time purchase price of those boxes, so each box may cost you perhaps $10 to $60, depending on brand and features). You may have also been told that if you get your TV signal from a cable company, rather than over the air from an antenna, you won't need to do anything.
On the other hand, if you receive your TV programs from Verizon FiOS, and have more than one TV set, you will need to RENT for EACH ADDITIONAL TV SET you either one of their set top decoder boxes (the same kind you need to get FiOS on your primary TV) or a Verizon digital to analog adapter. The converters you can BUY via the government's coupon program will NOT work with FiOS. The cost for renting Verizon adapters is $3.95 per month per additional TV set for as long as you own the older TV.
I signed a one-year contract for the Verizon Triple Freedom Essentials promotion package which gave me a set top box with DVR free the first year. But neither the sales personnel nor the installer who hooked up my computer and primary TV mentioned about needing adapters for my other two TVs.

Long Distance Overbilling
I recently had Fios installed in my appartment. They were six hours late. The actual Fios product is good. However, customer service is a nightmare. I have spent a total of 6 hours trying to get over $25o worth of international phone calls reversed on my statement. Verizon says these were operator assisted calls but they the "high tolls" department blocked my access to international phone calls for security reasons. There were no security issues. It seems verizon does this often. They block your long distance temporarily forcing you to contact the operator for help. This then become an operator assisted call and they charge you $2.00 a minute. When you call to try to resolve the dispute, collections does not know how to resolve it and they've dropped me four times forcing me to call back again and again. If you have Time warner or RCN - it might be worth dealing with a product that may not have all the bells and whistles but has better support.

Wrong Billing Amounts
I have been a Verizon customer for about four months. It always amazes me that, despite having Lifeline services and a simple Freedom Plan, there's always a way for them to jack up my monthly bill to over $100.00 a month. Every month there is a either a new error or problem that has to be resolved on the phone with hours of my time wasted on these issues. I have never received a bill that is so difficult to read and make sense of. That's probably intentional I know I am not stupid. I have two college degrees and am working on another one now. I am smart and ethical. Maybe that's why the bills so not make sense? This month they charged for a tech to come out to my home to set up service. They orginally told me there was no charge. One customer rep says one thing, then another says something else. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. I was overbilled long distance because no rep explained to me that I had to sign up separately for a long distance plan. Thought it was part of the package. And, I was scammed by them as they quoted a DirectTv monthly fee which was jacked up by Directv. And, they never told me Directv was an 18 month commitment so I could be out $360.00. Imagine that.
My advice. Go elsewhere. They cannot be honest about their fees. They change their story. There is no consistency in how problems are handled. You spend hours on the phone with them, and if you have no landline service, then you are going to have a heck of a cell phone bill that month. I am disgusted with this company. I have never dealt with such unethical, dumbed down companies as Verizon and Directv and I am done with both of them. And, I am disgusted at myself for falling for their garbage. There is even a legal firm starting a class action suit against Directv for this 18 month issue, so I am not the only one.

Fraudulent charges
On June 16th, I could not get onto my internet. When I called Verizon tech support, they couldn't see why I was unable to get on. I was told by a Verizon worker later that a code they saw at the office showed there was a problem and they would send someone the following week at no charge to me. That week, I called and was told there was no appointment and that I would be billed if someone came. So I was forced to go to another carrier for internet. The Verizon Co. said that I asked to cancel my service. I explained that they needed to show my service as being canceled because of non function. I have been billed and billed since then. I feel that some government agency needs to help people who become victims of outrageous billing and bogus charges to the customer. I went to the Attorney General and waited 6-8 weeks to hear that Verizon didn't respond and that I could go to small claims court. I don't know that I can do that . I'm on a very small income. Is there anyone or anything that can be done about these unethical billing practices. Bottom line, I did not cancel my contract. Verizon refused to help me without getting more money.

Scam and cheating
I got an LG Dare all but a two months ago and the thing is essentially garbage. I care for my tech gadgets like Mary did the baby Jesus but this thing has fallen apart on its own. I've never dropped it, never even looked at it sideways and the screen has completely crapped out. So when I took it back to the Verizon store where I purchased it, they told me that it was out of the 30 day warranty so I would have to buy a full price, brand new LG Dare if I wanted to keep my contract. And what if I wanted to expire my 2 year contract? A penalty of 200 bucks, the same price of the phone! Whatever you do, I beg you. Do not buy this phone.

DSL, FIOS, wireless phones and Land lines
I know that know one at verizon cares but as a warning to others beware of verizon. Some time ago I was sold a DSL package with a speed of 3.0 mbs and the "required" phone service. I did not need or want a land line at home and I informed them of that at the time, but was told I had to to get DSL. The DSL never worked right (could not access the intenet). After nearly a year of paying for a service that I was not receiving and many calls to verizon for help, a tech. guy finaly showed up at the house. This was about the same time the my contract was about up by the way. He checked out the lines etc. only to let me know that I should never have been sold the DSL Pkg. that I had been sold because I lived too far from the local office. The service could not "push" that speed and it would have to be lowered to 1.5mbs. No change in my price for the lower speed was offered even though I asked. After a month of this slower speed (unusable for my applications), my contract was up. I called to cancel the solw DSL and phone service, but against my better judgement allowed them to sell me on switching to a new contract for FIOS which had become available in the mean time. Dumb on my part I know. I now am being billed for the old services I no longer have and the new FIOS package on top of that in a seperate billing. I don't understand this at all since I was "switching" to FIOS. On top of that the FIOS package did not have the services I was told I would get and my bill is much higher than what I was quoted. I am through with verizon and plan to switch providers away from verizon for my office and my home. I have several land lines home and work, two wireless phones, TV and internet all with Verizon, but not for long. See ya verizon.

FIOS
I have a TV box that did not work properly and has not been used without problem in last 2 months.
I regretted having FIOS and wanted to go back to DSL, guess what; my account CANNOT go back to DSL, once I became FIOS, NO WAY TO GO BACK, I call it MONOPOLY.
Verizon has no ability to be in service. FIOS is the worst service.

Phone service OUT again
Every time the power goes off, we lose land line service. A technician has to be sent out to restore the breaker so there is power to the system up here in the mountains..
