Unauthorised charges
I too have been ripped off by Vonage. I canceled my service and had to pay for 2 lines of cancellations of $39.99, and also the equipment for $79.99. I don't want it, but they won't take it back. One phone line was a $24.99 rate, the other a $14.99. But yet I pay the $39.99 for each one. Even though the service was less than perfect. Did not work most the time, not compatible with my internet service at all! When you cancel they harass you to remain a customer. The response team leaves messages for me to call them back, but can never get through. We have been playing phone tag for a week now. I do work, and cannot be home the hours they are available, not sure why they cannot handle it via email! At any rate, I am still trying to get a hold of the response person!

SCAM
9-13-08
Anyone who has ever dealt with Vonage will know about the problems they have with connection service, customer service and improper billing. One specific problem is Vonage will charge you a disconnect fee of $39.95 plus sales tax without any notice. Most customers are not aware that Vonage charges a disconnection fee. Regardless of whether you disconnect due to poor service, no service or any other reasonable need to cancel you will be charged $39.95. Unfortunately, most won't discover this until after their forced to cancel service. If you read the agreement, (and most have never heard of it or read it) you will soon discover that it’s written for the sole intent to protect Vonage, not you the consumer. You’re basically giving up all your rights when you buy their service. Vonage will use this agreement in their defense for charging you the disconnect fee. The good thing is this agreement is actually considered illegal. All agreements or contracts have to be written in a way that everyone can understand what their reading, not one that requires a dictionary to decipher. Also, most States and Local Civil and Criminal Jurisdictions will not uphold this type of agreement and allow consumers to file a lawsuit regardless of the language. I won’t go into the legal specifics about how it should be written but Vonage has absolutely no language what so ever for the protection of the consumer. A legal agreement or I should say one that will stand up in a court of law has to be fair; obviously Vonage is way out of bounds with the one their using. By their terms, you are giving up every right imaginable, including if the President of Vonage decided to shoot you...oh well, there’s not much you can do about that, you agreed not to sue anyone related to Vonage. That’s a little bit of a stretch, but you see what this could lead too. Vonage has gotten away with this scare tactic for many years, simply because they know most consumers won't pay $150.00 plus to file a law suit. Nor will most forgo using an attorney because the fees are not cost effective. The thing is you don't have too. Here’s what everyone needs to do, provided you are fed up with Vonage. Write or visit your local State Attorneys office and seek criminal charges against Vonage. Write your Local and State Representative and complain. If enough people follow through and file a complaint you will see legal actions brought against Vonage. Don't believe everything you read, just because Vonage has a No Class Action clause in their agreement, that doesn't necessarily make it legal. You’re wasting your time trying to resolve your problem with Vonage, take it a step further and let your State do the work for you. If a class action suit is filed against Vonage you will get your money back! Let's get together and put a stop to Vonage and their Scam. It will only happen if you make your voice heard! Do It Today!!

Cancellation
Have tried to cancel service since 2/08. They keep you on the phone forever, offer a month free, etc, etc.
However, when all is said and done, they will not cancel. I have been in a location where I do not have access to internet or satellite and cannot use vonage. But, they are still charging me in 09/08.

Vonage cost me thousands and I never once made nor received a call with the company.
I signed up for Vonage under the conditions that I would have uninterrupted phone, internet, and fax service. When my internet was cut off, they told me that I should have had a "dry loop". My current internet provider was now cut off, and I was charged a cancellation fee. Over the course of four months I was strung along with no service, but promises that everything would be alright. Don't worry. I was told on three separate occasions that "by the end of this call, your problem will be taken care of". They kept giving me extra trial months until I had service.

Too make a long story "fairly" short, I was charged for six months of phone and fax service. I never once made nor received a call with Vonage. I never sent nor received a fax. I cancelled to stop the bleeding, until I could resolve things. I received nothing but empty promises, and automated responses. I, later found out that they had not cancelled my account, but since I cancelled through their website, and not from my email account, I had no documentation of this. They charged a cancellation fee on top.

I spent hundreds of dollars on my cell phone bills because Vonage left me with no phone. I lost thousands of dollars in business, because I'm a salesperson with no internet, home phone, or fax. I must have been an optimist, because my Vonage fax number was on my new business cards.

I disputed the charges, and my credit card company took some of them off my bill. Vonage kept putting the charges right back on. After a while, Mastercard was tired of dealing with it.

I spent over 24 hours on the phone with various Vonage representatives over this time period. Although some were nice, my situation was never even considered (let alone resolved).

That's why I just contacted the Better Business Bureau. Let's see what happens. If anyone needs help disputing Vonage, or utilizing the Bureau, please contact me. Until my situation is resolved, I'm dedicating my free time to make sure that bullies like this don't take advantage of good people. The more people we get together, the easier it gets.

Terrible company
Hello, I contacted Vonage to discuss service. They were very misleading. I discussed the pricing with the service rep which sounded like a good deal, he then needed my checking acct info which I gave him then he proceeded to read the terms and conditions of the acct. After hearing part of the terms plus he was foreign and had for me to understand I decide that I didn't want to sign up and told him several times that I was no longer interested. He told me that it was too late that my payment was processed already which I then told him that he has to read me the terms before I bind to a contract and then ask to speak with a supervisor and I told her same thing that I was not interested in their services and not to proceed with billing my acct. Told me payment was processed and phone had been shipped. I never committed to anything. Was charged $29.36. Called the next day to complain and was told that I couldn't cancel until I received phone and shipped it back. I now have the phone and called for return address and they have taken 42.79 out of my acct since I canceled the acct and I have to pay the shipping to send phone that I never wanted in the first place back to them. I have contacted Good Morning America and hope to have a response soon. I have surfed the web and my heart sank when I read all of the complaints against this company and the way there stealing from people. Legally they have to read the terms of the contract first before processing your checking acct or credit cards... this company is very misleading and a disgrace. How can the CEO of this company sleep at nite letting its employees treat people unfairly and stealing there money... Beware of this company I work too hard for my money to have it stolen from me.

Misrepresentation by customer service and supervisors
I spent 3 hours on the phone with your company, as I was misrepresented when calling to find out about signing up for service. I was given to 5 different reps and a supervisor named Paul who told me that my card would be charged more money for disconnecting the service I was originally misrepresented on. A rep named Gary even called my telephone provider and conferenced with me regarding that they do not offer stand alone DSL in my area, as I was originally told by Samantha form NJ (Vonage rrep) on 07/30 that my provider did offer stand alone dsl, upon making my first call. I also found in ridiculous that there is a web page of just complaints about your customer service/company.

Respectfully,
Sarah Green.

Contract and disconnection
When I took there was no mention anywhere that they have a 2 year contract. Now when I disconnected after 8 months, they suddenly charge me a disconnection fee and equioment which they said is free no they are charging for that as well. This is outright daylight roberry!!! Is there anyway I can sue them??

illegal actions and no ethics
Upon hooking up our new Vonage phone, the Vonage company illegally disconnected service from our other business phone without our consent, (after repeatedly assuring us there would be no conflict with the other line) and after over THREE HOURS on the phone refused to even admit it was possible. (and yes... they did do it, this is not a misunderstanding).
And after all that, refused to budge on charging us the temporary $40 disconnect fee, even after we explained that we DIDN'T HAVE IT in the account and it would result in a overdraft fee from our bank. (that was account management, thanks Thoriah or whetever your name was)

Thank you, Vonage, and thanks to your condescending staff of foreigners for putting us through hell and robbing us of a full weekend's worth of business(so far).

Didn't cancel my account
VONAGE DIDN'T CANCEL MY ACCOUNT... On june 5th i ordered Vonage i got fees waived for signing up and 3 months free of charge. On the first day i plugged the equipment in i could not get my voice mail setup done it wouldn't take my pin # to check my messages. This went on for the first 3 days after that i started getting complaints with who ever would be on my phone talking to me or someone else in my home that they couldn't hear us or we sounded like we were talking underwater. Then if someone was on the computer at the same time the phone was being used you could hear a tapping on the phone that would not stop. At this point i am very frustrated... Then my phone calls started dropping constantly now i was very pissed... during this times i tried to call Vonage either they couldn't hear me right on the phone or they would hang up on me when they put me on hold.On the 28th day i called again finally got some one to help me that could hear me and i told them not to place me on hold. After being on the phone with him for 1 hour he ran test after test and each one he told me that the numbers coming up after each test was done were not high enough for me to have voice threw my internet and there was nothing more he could do for me.So i told him that i would cancel my service with him and call Att to reconnect me with them. He apologized and said that he was very sorry for the inconvenience it had caused. I waited to till Att connected me back up called Vonage to see what i had to do to return there equipment to them and the lady said that i was never canceled. So there for i owed them $101.17 because it was passed the 30 day cancellation time i tried to explain that i had canceled on the 28th day and she said no i didn't my account was still active. She was very rude she wouldn't hear what i had to say and kept telling me that i had to pay this money. I asked to speak to a manager and she said that she was the manager and there was no one else i could speak to. I hung up the phone cause she would let me get a word in.I called my bank and asked if i had anything coming threw and they told me yes from Vonage for $106.00 i told them i didn't authorize that so now i had to pay my bank to stop that payment.
