Vonage Reviews

Bad service!
This is regarding the extremely frustrating experience we had with Vonage today. To begin with, we took the connection on 18th Feb. My account was debited with $35. without any prior notice today. There was not even email communication regarding this. When spoken to the representative - Jeff, to quote his words, "we were supposed to send the mail, but we didn't." How will I dispute my bill, when I never even receive a notice about it. To quote your rule -"Billing Disputes. If you want to dispute any Vonage charges on your statement, you must notify us within 7 days after you receive your statement from your bank or credit card issuer. If you do not dispute the charges within 7 days, you waive any right to contest the charges. "

When you are not even giving me any notice to begin with, how will I come to know about the amount you are debiting from my account and how will I contest your charges. I spoke to Jeff for about 40 minutes and decided finally to cancel my account or talk to the manager. When asked about cancellation, he said my 30 day period had elapsed, when it didn't.

Per Vonage rule -.

"We offer a money back guarantee if you terminate your service within 30 days from your subscription date. The subscription date is the date you order service or the date we successfully process your payment, whichever is later. It is not the day you receive the equipment you ordered or the first day you use the service. " In this case, subscription date = 18 Feb '08 and payment was processed on 19 Feb '08, so per rule 19th Feb '08 should be used to consider the 30 day period, so as of 19th mar '08 which is today, it makes it 29 days.

When asked to transfer my call to Accounts Dept, he put me on hold indefinitely and finally the call got disconnected. I called VONAGE again and this time, it was Chris and he had little idea about my problem. I think you should remember that I am calling VONAGE and not Jeff or Chris. Your representative should know why I called. I shouldn't have to repeat my whole thing again, This is extremely annoying especially when the person doesn't even know what I am talking about.
Again, he promised to transfer the call to Accounts, which never happened and finally the call got disconnected.

Is this the level of customer satisfaction you maintain? This is pathetic. I would definitely post my opinion about this on the net and let others know about it. Anyway, That besides the point.

So Just want to say beware of VONAGE GIMMICKS. They have lot of fine print!

They lie and steal your money!
The equipment did not work, I called to cancel several times, only to be transferred around and disconnected, after 6 months of this I finally got to speak to an actual person, I told him what was going on,and that I was canceling my service. He said it would cost me $131.38 to cancel the service I was so fed-up by this time, I said fine, he then gave me my cancellation # and said he was pushing the deactivate service button. I thought my nightmare was finally over, 2 days later I got an email from them, titled opinion survey so I opened it and read it,they were thanking me for remaining a valued customer. Needless to say I called them back this lady said it was an oversight and they would have it corrected within 24 hours, well I got curious and called my bank to see if he took the $131.38 cents out of my bank account anyways, he didn't, instead vonage took $218.98 cents out of my bank account for disconnection fees. I did NOT authorize that much, every one there lies and steals. There are no work ethics, the company needs to be shut down.

Impossible to cancel!
Vonage has to be stopped. While they make it very easy to sign up, to cancel is next to impossible. They require that it be done by the account holder in a phone call during their hours of service. Once you finally get through, what you don't know is they have a very sophisticated AI program dealing with you. They go out of their way to make it sound like a human being but it is not! And it is programmed to NOT take no for an answer and NOT allow you to cancel. Most people think they are talking to a human being but they are not! How can we take action against the vonage scam... Plz advise smb!

Refuses to refund unused monthly service charge
On Dec 24th 2007, my phone number was successfully transferred OUT of Vonage. Accordingly, my account with them should have been auto-disconnected (this is in their policy). I was billed in advance on my credit card for the period Dec 21, 2007 to Jan 20, 2008. However, since my service was canceled and I do not have a contract with them, I should have received a refund for the unused portion. To this date, they have refused to refund my money.

Terrible service!
I ordered Vonage on Nov, 2007. When I got everything for the phone system and got it hocked up. It would not work. I could not get it to work. the power lite keeps flashing and the phone will not work and when I hooked up the VT2142, my internet service quite working. I was on the cell phone with tech support a week ago, and they could not get it to work. So I thought that a new DSL service would work. it did not. The same thing happened. Power lite flashing, the internet would not work, and no phone...

Now they want a disconnect fee of $39.99 per voice line along with any applicable taxes.

Billing after service terminated!
In november 2007 I called vonage to say I was moving out of the country and wanted service terminated. I was offered 2 months free call forwarding to my cell phone. In January I see that I have been billed for December and January. I was told that because I accepted their free offer of call forwarding my account would not be terminated and therefore the billing would continue.

Vonage is unethical, provides poor service, fraudulently charges card
SUE for a full refund in small claims court. I won my claim. You can, too!

ALWAYS communicate with Vonage via POSTAL mail (paper).

Vonage is the new MCI: they're good at selling but have ZERO interest in customer service, have ZERO ethics, and don't even have the best audio codecs. You're call quality will suffer with vonage. Most of their money is spent on advertising. Their "support" model is like AOL: paying abusive cretins that use vonage with free vonage service. ZERO accountability!!

You're better off with VoicePulse.com or even voip.com. VoicePulse has the BEST quality audio codecs with the lowest compression. $20/mo unlimited National. They also offer lower bandwidth codecs. I use them. They're a little slow implementing new features. It's been TWO years and no new features.. but they will never screw you like vonage does.

For best results use a router that works with DD-WRT.com firmware!

--quote-start--

VoicePulse is the only service that offers five features to protect your privacy.

* Telemarketer Block stops telemarketers even before your phone rings.
* Anonymous Call Block stops all unidentified calls. (I LOVE this feature!)
* Do Not Disturb stops all calls.
* Filters let you configure who can ring your phone and who can't. (puts an end to abusive family calls)
* CallerID Block stops others from seeing your phone number when you make calls. (if I don't get to see who it is they are NOT ALLOWED to ring MY phone)

--quote-end--

voicepulse can also email voicemail.

Combine with YouMail.com for your mobile phone -- screw verizon wireless!

If you're techically savvy consider getting OPEN SOURCE asterisk and setting up your own VoIP system that's SIP friendly.. with EVERY FEATURE imaginable..

save even more money!!

asterisk.org

"Asterisk is the world’s leading open source telephony engine and tool kit. Offering flexibility unheard of in the world of proprietary communications, Asterisk empowers developers and integrators to create advanced communication solutions...for free"

asterisknow.org

"AsteriskNOW is an open source Software Appliance; a customized Linux distribution that includes Asterisk (the leading open source telephony engine and tool kit), the AsteriskGUI™, and all other software needed for an Asterisk system. AsteriskNOW is easy to install, and offers flexibility, functionality and features not available in advanced, high-cost proprietary business systems."

The VoIP providers, especially vonage, will hate me for informing you about asterisk! ;)

spread the word and screw vonage into non-existence

Billing after cancellation
We switched back to AT&T from Vonage because the Vonage never worked for very long at a time and was out of service more than in service. AT&T called Vonage on 7/18/07 to discontinue our service (AT&T called them so we could keep our phone number.) We are still being billed by VOnage on our credit card - the last being in December 2007. We try to contact them but have been on hold longer than 40 minutes each time. My husband finally got through and they would not talk to him (even though they are charding his credit card) because I set up the account. Vonage is ripping us off!
what can we do about this?

Rip off!
I am stunned this company is still in business with this practice. They just kept me on the phone for a full hour trying to cancel my accounts. They said they were charging me $39.99 to cancel each line. I only added a 2nd line yesterday because I was told if I kept it for less than one month, it would only cost $.04. They also are charging a $79.99 'recovery' fee, and told me that was for the equipment. I also specifically was told when I signed up that there is no contract. However, if you cancel within a year, they charge you $40, plus whatever this mysterious 'recovery fee' is, which is not even in their terms of service. They say it is for the equipment, and if you return the equipment, they still will charge you for it.

I specifically did not authorize these charges, and any time i would say to cancel my account during this call, they would say you must agree to the $160 worth of charges. When I would say I would not agree to them, they would say they would not close my account then. They also tried to get me to speak to a technical support person and keep the line.

The phone quality was HORRIBLE, and closing the account a total nightmare. I will be doing a charge back for the fees.

Vonage billed me for international calls which were never made!
I retained Vonage's services in November of 2005. In January I received a copy of Decembers bill. I was charged over $300.00 in phone calls to India. These calls started around midnight on the 25th and ended the night of the 26th. The calls were all one minute long, to the second, and exactly one minute apart, to the second. I complained to Vonage that I did not make these calls and for that matter no human could make such exacting phone calls for such a long period of time. They transferred me from department to department and refused to let me speak to a manager. I issued formal written complaints and they insisted that it did not matter if I made the phone calls or not. Because Vonage will only provide service if you give them a credit card and authorization to bill the card at will, they had my money and refused to give it back. What they did amounts to theft!!
