Woodcrest Small Engine
Woodcrest Small Engine & Saw Repair was originally a “repair only” shop, started by Dave Munie of Highland in the late 90’s. He worked on all makes and models of lawn mowers and saws. Always looking for help, Dave hired 16 year old Shaun Horstmann in the spring of 2008 working after school and through the summer. That lasted about 4 years as Shaun went to Ranken Tech. earning a certificate for automotive maintenance through evening classes. Shaun then worked at a Car dealer for 3 years, still helping Dave part time before trying a security system installer position for a year while Dave downsized the business and only worked out of his home garage.
The big change-
Late in 2014 Shaun decided he needed to use his skills of small engine repair and approached Dave to discuss what had been only a dream until now. Shaun and Dave came to an agreement that Shaun would buy the business and parts inventory and Dave would also come work for Shaun for 6+ months. With that, Shaun moved the business to a block building with no windows (more like a cave) on 13th st. in Highland. One year later in 2016 the building on Broadway became available and that is were we have been since.
Gravely-
In 2016 we had acquired the great storefront we have now and with much excitement brought on the Gravely lineup. Since then we have sold over 500 Gravely machines and counting.
Today-
As we have grown since 2015 when Shaun took over we have had many ups and downs. Shaun will be the first to admit, he is a good mechanic, but not so great of a leader sometimes and the success of this business is due to the team members we have had along the way. Without the help of some great people, we could not serve the Highland area the way we want to and plan to continue our growth with integrity, faster repair times, more parts on hand, and better communication with our customers.
