Last month I made a payment to my Mastercard on HSBC's website instead of through my bank as usual; the payment was made well before the due date, and my motive was seeing about getting the payment credited immediately. A *week and a half* later, I finally called them since the funds had not been removed from my checking account, and the (thickly-accented Indian) agent I spoke on the phone only *then* chose to inform me that the payment had been sent back for reasons he did not/would not reveal.
