In late 2010, I submitted my information on the web in an attempt to refinance my mortgage. I received calls from 4 different companies. Amerisave and another company had the best rate, but i decided to go with Amerisave because they seemed like the larger bank. Once Amerisave actually started working on my loan, I was asked to send in many other documents. This occured for about 30 days. I recently contacted Quicken Loans for a refinance on my current mortgage. I figured they were a reputable company simply because of the amount of advertising they do. After hearing what they could offer me, I agreed to pay the $400 upfront appraisal fee. Originally, Quicken had told me that the interest rate would be locked when I gave them the $400 deposit.
