We purchased a VodFone prepaid cell phone at Sydney airport, only to find out in our travels in Australia, that there was no coverage outside of the cities. It for Ed me to use my US ($1.25 per min) phone in 2 emergency situations, and many other times that a phone was required, and I had no coverage.
