A young woman came to my front door on 11/18/09, professing to be working hard to "get back on her feet" by selling magazing subscriptions. She was very believable and my husband and I wanted to help her. We committed to buying 3 subscriptions for the total cost of $154 (stupid mistake #1). We wrote her a check (mistake #2) for this amount, but were so pre-occupied with our two little children hungry for dinner, that I neglected to write out the check amount and only filled in the dollar amount.
