In June 09, we contacted GMAC Mortgage to apply for a loan modification. We submitted out required paperwork and hardship letter explaining that my wife was laid off and we lost half of our monthly gross income. GMAC responded back with a loan modification that would reduce our mortgage by less than $50. We contacted them back and the person we spoke with could explain how they can to a $50 reduction when we lost half of our monthly income.
