upon entering shell credit card at shell station the card was approved and I was advised to lift handle and select grade of gasoline. I remove the handle, selected grade and was surpised that gas immediately began to spew from the hose. The gas splashed on the side of the vechile and my shirt, sweater, pants and shoes. I was able to grab the handle lever and release it so that it would shut off. I advised the attendent of the problem.
