I had an outstanding ballance on my Best Buy credit card through Chase. Once I received a bill for the account, my payment was already late. I used the dial-in account services provided by Chase...and chose the "Pay by Phone" option. The options you are provided are: pay off your statement ballance or pay another amount. Since I was interested in paying off my account, I chose to pay off my "last" statement ballance, not realizing this was not my actual statement ballance...which included a 36.50 late fee.
