I had a checking account at another bank that was closed by the Office of Thrift Supervision. That bank mailed me a check for the residual amount in my checking account with them. I deposited that check into my Wachovia account. However, it was returned to Wachovia as being unpaid. Wachovia promptly debited my account for the amount deposited and then charged me an additional $10 returned item fee.
