I booked a ticket, through Travelociy, from Los Angeles to San Francisco for the Memorial Day weekend. When I got to the airport I was advised that the flight had been "cancelled due to mechanical errors". All other flights to San Francisco were booked solid because of the holiday weekend and was advised that the likelihood of finding space on another flight (even through other carriers), that weekend, was very slim.
