I took a loan from HDFC last year. I propose to prepay the loan in asap. However, yesterday the Lower Parel branch informed me that with effect from 1 May 2010, borrowers can prepay only twice a year. Firstly, this is not a fair policy particularly when HDFC charges a prepayment penalty. Secondly, they are so bold that they are openly telling me that they do not need to inform the borrowers about such an important change. I was not even informed when I went to prepay in June.
