I believe that you needed more information on owning bearded dragons before they immediately took you to the extremes. There is one thing about pet stores, they are random people doing a job because they feel like they love animals. To truely care about animals they would have given you a care sheet, and maybe even shown you a book. My own bearded dragon died (rip spicky) from what i found out later was a hemorrage of the brain.
