My jeep (1990 Cherokee) sputtered and died on the road - no gas getting to engine...started again a few minutes later. Took into neighborhood Pep Boys as good past experience...not this time. I thought (and told this the guy) maybe a fuel filter, fuel pump, or a clogged line? Manager (John?) called me up later next day and told me good news (fuel filter and pump checked and OK) but that some manifold gasket is shot (Fuel injectors?) and sold me a $650 repair.
