I went to exchange a dvd from Christmas that my husband already had. It was unopened with the price and company name (cinema 1) sticker and barcode, etc. still on the front of the dvd. My husband threw away the receipt by accident. I didn't think it would be a problem to exchange (I wasn't planning on asking for a refund!) since the info. was still on the movie.
