The government of Costa Rica is guilty of corruption on many counts. Currently, the government is purposely gouging American tourists (and other tourists and residents) regarding the US dollar exchange. Tourists and residents who have income coming from the US are being treated totally unfairly, since, they have dropped the exchange unbelievably low in less than two months! How low? This company made a charge without my authorization. I never filled out any form or similar document so this charge for USD 78.00 is not valid. After thoroughly investigating car rentals in Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica in December, 2009 I made online arrangements with credit card pre-approval of $404.12 through American Express, I decided on Hertz (or should I say Hurt$ ) and upon depature the total was $681.00+..!! I made two phone call using an international pay phone on June 21. No one was home, so the calls lasted less than one minute each. When I returned home and checked my charges, I found that I was charged over $90 for the calls! I applied for a very small loan of $100 and was told I could not get approved because they needed a direct line to contact me at work. Now keep in mind in the past I had gotten approved several times and up to $1000 with no problem and they have always been paid on time. In the past they just called my job and verified I worked there. I am not sure on why the change but not everyone has a direct number to them at work so I don't see why they need this when none of my information has changed. In Sept of 2006, we legally contracted with Costa Rica Limited to purchase a home in Esterillos, Costa Rica. We made 3 payments totalling approximately $94, 000 before the house was started per the contract. Our home construction was to begin in January 2007, then July 2007. Dr. Alejandro Mora performed the teeoth whitening procedure known as Zoom on my teeth. The prepearation for this treatment is totally inadequate and the inner portion of my upper and lower lips were burned by the light from the process. It took 17 days for the blisters to heal. When I complained Dr. Mora told me that I had a reaction to the protective coating they applied. Not true. The protective coating was not applied to these areas and the treatment was not properly done. Beware! I rented a car in Costa Rica for 11 days from Dec 25, 2007 to Jan 05, 2008. When I returned the car to the San Jose airport location, the Dollar representative coerced me into paying $20 for cleaning of the car (which was only a little dusty), and tried to overcharge me by $200. His behavior was appalling. Since I was so angered by his attempts at cheating me, he ended up overcharging me by only $80, which I have submitted to Dollar for a refund. This is a horrible way to treat Dollar's customers, and leaves a very bad feeling upon leaving Costa Rica after a vacation. read full review »

I ordered a kitchen & bathroom furniture from Grupo Kaizensa in San Jose, Costa Rica December 07. When I placed my order, everybody in the showroom spoke English, what made the choice for using them easier, there my Spanish is basic at best. The kitchen comes from Argentina, but they gave me a shipping date of 900/100 days. I went to costa rica for 2 months on business visit. I took mobile on rent from Metarentacelluar company. Mr.Mario (he might be the ower) insisted for the credit card. I gave my card and he promised me that no money will be taken from my card and he will only block certain amount of money from my card. When I surrendered the phone, I paid him full by cash. After making payment to him, I accidently went to my banks website and found that he has taken USD 600 from my card. I deposited about $500.00 of my own money on the site so I could play. I won approx. $25, 000. I followed the withdraw rules which was you can only cash out $1, 250.00 per week. I received $6, 250.00 of the money over 4 months last year. They have not approved anymore of my withdraws since September 17, 2010 (8 months ago). They ignore my calls.
