I recently had the opportunity to engage with the Executive Functioning Coaching offered by Ascent Psychological Services, and I’m delighted to share how impactful this experience turned out to be.
From the first session, it was clear that the coaching is thoughtfully designed. The team explains that “executive functioning refers to the mental skills we use to plan, organize, and execute tasks, manage time, and make decisions.”

The coach worked with me (and later with my family) to identify concrete strategies to strengthen skills like prioritizing tasks, breaking down complex projects, staying organized, and following through on commitments.

What stood out:
Personalized approach: Rather than offering a generic “one‑size‑fits‑all” program, the coaching felt tailored to my specific profile—my strengths, my areas of challenge, and how I prefer to work.
Practical tools and support: The coaching didn’t just talk about “improving executive functioning” abstractly; it gave me tools that I could use immediately—daily check‑ins, reminders, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and creating systems that feel sustainable.
Affirming and inclusive atmosphere: Ascent’s overall philosophy aligns with neurodiversity‑affirming care and trauma‑informed practice.
This mattered a lot to me because I felt seen and supported in my unique thinking style, rather than asked to conform to a rigid mold.
Support for families and parents: The coaching service is also available for parents. If you’re a parent helping a child navigate executive functioning or want to build strategies for your home routines, this is a resource.

Virtual flexibility: Given that Ascent serves multiple states and offers virtual options, I found scheduling fairly accessible and appreciated the remote format for coaching sessions.
If I were to offer some minor suggestions:
Having a clearer roadmap up‑front of how many sessions are typical or what milestones we might aim for could add even more clarity.
It might be beneficial to have optional “booster” sessions scheduled after a few months to maintain momentum—though this may already be offered, it would be nice to know.
