After seeing a patient as an "out of network" provider, patient paid cash but decided to bill their insurance for reimbursement. Again I am not a provider for the network and never agree to anything but a fee for service agreement. As expected the insurance company denied payment but some how Beech Street (for which I am a provider) got involved and are saying that because the insurance company works with them, I have to refund the money. To be clear, I was not authorized to see the patient even though the insurance company has this apparent affiliation with Beech Street, but they can come in and deny payment. Bottom line is many, many hours of patient care for free.
