Fraudulent charges
My Dad had Direct TV at their house, he had cancer and was Dying, they told him he needed to upgrade his system because it was outdated. They told him they needed to come out and install a new box and move the dish location, so he agreed. They told him to sign the Paper to show he received the receiver and the new dish location.
Several months later he Passed away and my Mom could not afford her house any longer, so she had to move to an apartment, which did not allow a satellite dish, so she called to cancel their service, they told her they would send a box out and she is to return the 2 receivers, which she did the day the boxes came. 1 month later my Dad's death benefit from SS came, $255.00 and that was to go toward his headstone and they debited her account $501.00 for early termination fee.
She never signed anything or ever read anything, my Dad did, and she got stuck Paying this, the bank said they would issue a credit back to her, and investigate it, I told her to withdraw the funds and to close the checking account, which she did. They were not able to get the money back from her, but did post negative ratings on her Credit report.
They never checked her credit to install it, but attached a collection report and negative reporting on her credit report. We have to now get a Lawyer through Legal Aid to help he fight this. I can not believe they can legally charge you Card without your authorization. Their has got to be a law against that.

Scam and cheating
The company offered a DVR upgrade, which they said, required a second line. I refused and asked if they had a 'splitter' They said it was in testing and would be available in 3-6 months. I said I'd use in in its' single line config. 9 mos. went by. In frustration, I agreed to buy an second DVR at my expense. When I hooked it up, it would not work, even after authorization and 90 mins with tech support. When I told them 'make it work' or you will lose me as a customer. They said 'to bad'!!! I sent back all equipment. They tried to charge my credit card without my permission and when I had it reversed, they billed me for 'early termination' $600. Termination of services not provided!!!

Avoid them!
Had a 1 yr commitment Jan 08 to Jan 09 4 months in 1 of the 5 receivers went bad (of course only 90 warranty $$) service was terrible and delayed but we did finally get the replacement (at our cost)
Was disappointed with cost of service (double what they singed us up for), the deliberately confusing billing practice and the constant charging of our credit card for movies. We cancelled after the year.
This is where the fun starts we returned our receivers and then received 2 billings (525.00) for movies we allegedly watched 8-13 months ago. They claim every box was to be hooked to a phone line and that if it wasn't you could still order movies and they had no way of charging SOOOOO beware you will be hit when you turn the boxes in...We have no way to dispute "the direct TV claims" we certainly don't recall if we watched a movie on a date last year...
And the real kicker is they also hit us with a early termination fee of ($340) remember the out of warranty box...well the replacement allowed them to extend the commitment 2 yrs.. if that is not crap...of course they have nothing signed by us to allow this, they say its all on their website and we are bound by it...this must be illegal to so blatantly take advantage of people.
I for see this company being involved in a class action lawsuit whereby they will be making settlements to all past customers (I will be one!!!) for their business practices...(WE can only hope they survive in business to make these paybacks!!!)

they are screwing my 92 yr.old Mom!
I am attempting to advocate for my almost-93 year old Mom who is a 2 year+ customer of Direct TV. she told me they keep raising her rates, charging her credit card more $ each month. I started calling them today at 9am Cali time and gave up at 12:20pm! Over 4 hours trying to get a "Supervisor" to speak with me, getting hung up on (twice), and total disrespect, no love or compassion. At the end, the 4th person told me basically, "so quit if you don't like it." When I go online they are advertising the same "Plan" my Mom is paying almost $64 for, at $29.99 for their latest "special deal" which is nothing but a bait & switch come on. they suck you in, then lower the boom. I want her to switch to Dish Network, but I read online that they are just as bad. Are they? She likes the "Plan" they have her on, but she's living on a fixed income and cannot afford to keep paying higher and higher rates. Are these people corrupt? they seem so to me, judging by the way they have treated me on the phone today. I am only here visiting for a few weeks, and whenever Mom tries to phone them (she does not go online!) she can never even get a LIVE PERSON, let alone A SUPERVISOR! She is put on hold for a 1/2 hour, then gives up, hangs up and is very sad & frustrated, as I am right now. HELP!

Customer Service
Thanks for the (310) 964-5000 Direct TV corporate office phone number IT WORKED they waived the contract termination fee!!!.
The Story>>>
My daughter had nothing but problems from day one with her service, she had it for a total of about 5 months.
She couldn't watch one thing while recording another...she spent about $50 of pay per minute phone charges talking to Tec? su??ort...she finally just gave up and lived with it...after about 4 months, her DVR started giving her a "Hardware Error" message and it would format itself at random, she lost everything she recorded...she spent more cell phone time $$$s with Tec? Su??ort...they finally sent her a new DVR and charged her $20 for shipping...this was a little less than 1 month ago...after hooking it up, she could not watch Live TV, she had to record something and watch it later... She tried Tec? ?u??or? again ...finally gave up...decided to just live with it...
I just learned of all of this a few days ago and I told her I would handle it...Yep, I raised hell with them, they said they could send someone out, but it would be 5 to 7 days and it would probably cost her for the service call...I told them Bull Shit! and demanded that she be let out of her contract (Cu?tomer ?ervi?e said no, She would be charged $380)...I canceled her service anyway and had Dish Network installed the next day (yesterday). I told the Dish installer about her problems and he said the reason she had the problem was because Direct TV never ran the second line to the dish when they installed it!!! (he also installs for DirectTV)...I called DirectTV again and told them the contract was null and void because it was never installed properly, and she never received the service promised in the contract!!! I got no where with them at the 800 number...
I ran across the corporate Phone number on this post and told them the whole story...it took some time but it worked, "Steve" also noticed that when they sent the second reciever/DVR...They put my daughter on a NEW TWO YEAR COMMITMENT!!!...He finally said he would waive the $380 charge...Still I told my daughter to watch her credit card for charges...because I don't trust them...she should be getting a refund for a some of the service she just paid. I still have my fingers crossed...
Again thanks for posting the (310) 964-5000 DirectTV corporate office phone number IT WORKED !!!

Liers & Theives
I cancelled my service with them and was told by TWO of their representatives that my cancellation fee would be $37.50. I then got a charge on my "final bill" for $212.50. I called to dispute it last week and was told I had to send a letter (via snail mail) to their Billing Dispute department. Today, the charge of $212.50 was deducted from my checking account WITHOUT my authorization. I was on the phone this morning for 45 min with a "Resolution Specialist" who did NOTHING to resolve my problem. He insisted that the charge was valid and he would not refund it. I asked to speak to his supervisor, who conveniently was on another call, but he would leave a message and they would return my call in 24-48 hours. He also told me that the billing dispute department will take 14-21 days to get in touch with me and would not give me a phone number to contact them, saying they can only be reached via mail. I asked if he was going to cover any charges that I incurred from other bills coming into my checking account, since I was now going to be overdrawn because of this unauthorized charged, and he said I'd have to take that up with the billing dispute dept. I said, "Oh, the one you can't get in touch with?" He was a real a**hole. I emailed Direct TV's customer service and informed them of how disgusted I am with their customer service, but I'm sure I won't hear a response. I've tried to dispute the charge through my bank, but was told that since it was already processed, they can not reverse the charge until it goes through the dispute either. AND on top of all that, the bank cancelled my debit card, so now I have to reset all my other online bills that I pay using that card. Thanks Direct TV for really screwing up my week!!

Scam!
I called them to order service for our family vacation home. I asked what special they were running at the time and the agent read them off to me. I chose one that was about $39 per month and free DVR upgrade. I explained at the time I ordered that is a vacation home and there is no mail service and gave them my credit card billing address and cell phone #. He said it was no problem that they do that all the time. He explained to me that the first month bill would show on my card at the regular amount and them I would be credited for the difference on the next bill. He said we were all set and the install date was set.
Everything was going fine and I get a bill in January for a December billing that is for two months at the regular price. I decide that I should open an online account and found that one I had used at my home in the past now had all my information. I check and find that another charge was placed on my card on 2/13/09 for the regular price again so I called to find out why.
Welcome to DirecTV ***. I was told that I did not fill out a rebate form. I explained that I wasn't told about a rebate. They transfer me to the rebate department where they tell me "Too bad. It's now past the 60 day rebate window so I will just have to pay the regular price." I explained that no one mentioned a rebate to me and I was told that the form was in my welcome package. I asked where it was mailed and, guess what, it was sent where I told them I get no mail.
The bottom line is that they waited and double billed me, eliminating most of my chance to catch the problem in the rebate window, sent the package where I get no mail then told me that I can either pay the regular $65 price or remove service and pay a $450 early cancellation fee. That's a very professional solution to a problem they created.
From talking to several agents it become clear that they have canned responses for each item in your complaint so I sincerely feel that the "special" program is designed to hook, mislead and cheat customers.
I had them stop the service now I have to begin a fight over the $450 early cancellation charge. They got me good this time but never again!

Fraudulent charges
In December of 2008, I signed up to get Direct tv installed. After listing options I was showed that my bill would be $48.86 a month. I thought this was all I needed to do to receive all the rebates that are mentioned in their literature. Service and installation was no problem. In January got billed for $68.86 a month. Called to see what the problem was about the rebate deal. They said in did not go through on line but I could get it now plus an additional savings by paying through a credit card. So I enrolled in that thinking everything taken care of. In February got credit card statement showing still $68.86.. Called again ..they said they have to wait till the rebate was received THEN they give you the discounted rate. I was told it was NOT received in January but will go into effect now. But they will not credit my account for Jan or Feb for the difference. Why do they think I called them in January?? No where in their ads do they say when the rebate will go into effect or that they have to wait for awhile. I think this is completely misleading.

Terrible Service!
I am disgusted with the service. The attendant Stephanie badge #409782 was incredibly rude and argumentative and not willing to assist in my concerns. She put me on hold and for 20 minutes before I hung up as she said she was going to get me someone to talk to and never did. It was obvious that she was not going to further assist me.
I have had nothing but problems with the service and am completely disgusted in the way they treat long standing customers. My DVR was not hooked up correctly so my High Def as not coming in. When someone finally came out, they decided to charge me for the service call.
I will be moving in the next 6 months and I will be more than happy to discontinue the service and will never recommend the services.
