Fraud
We pay 29.99 and only have 43 channels and 14 channels have never worked and at least 10 of the remaining chanels are sporatic. Their service is extremely poor and the said we were supposed to have 150 chanels... One of the worst companies I have ever seen and it amounts to legalized theft by deception. Yes, we will cancel and go elsewhere however this company needs to be shut down period!!!

Terrible Poduct and Service
I spent over two hours on the phone with Direct TV today and got no satisfaction. They put me on hold twice and eventually just hung up both times. They also refuse to give a phone number or any names of executives at the headquarters in Colorado. Every time it rains, the wind blows, or it snows, we have no service. The 200 stations we were told we would get comprise of 50% radio stations, 40% infomercials and Pay Per View channels and 10% channels that are pretty much lousy. Of the 200 channels we have in our "package", we have watched a total of 20 cable stations and 7 local ones in the last 1 1/2 years. When you call customer service, the only thing they know how to say is "I'm sorry ma'am", and "there's nothing we can do about it". I'm stuck in this 24 month contract that was sold with a pack of lies.
I can't wait to get out of this and go running back to cable TV. It's not much more expensive than this great deal I'm supposed to be getting, but at least with cable you get reliable service and the stations you want.
Direct TV is the worst satellite provider out there. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of them.

Their customer service was something not to be desired
On January 18, 2010 Direct tv came to our home to install our cable tv. Though there work was satisfactory I would have to say that their customer service was something not to be desired. I told one of the service technicians to knock or ring the door bell prior to entering the house. He disregarded my wishes and continued to come in without knocking. I then locked all the doors to ensure they knocked. I then explained to the technician that I wanted certain boxes in certain rooms where they would fit into the various entertainment centers. He stated that he would fix that prior to leaving, he did not. Also the technician left the empty boxes behind that contained the company's materials. I have to also say that I am used to someone waiting to be ask if they want a drink not to ask for a drink like it is my responsibility to provide such a service.

fraudulent billing practices
Direct TV is guilty of grand theft from what I can see. First we decided to cancel with Direct TV due to lousy programming options and the bill went up quite a bit. They informed us they would be deducting $316. out of our credit account, I froze my account at that point, then they sent us the boxes and because we upgraded in November of 09 with a receiver we "bought" at Best Buy they said that meant we had "extended" our contract for 2 years, ( ???), My husband spoke with a rep of Direct TV and he told us we had to send back all the receivers. Two regular receivers and two HI Def receivers. My husband informed him that one of the high Def receivers was purchased by us for $100. at Best Buy, he said we had to return that to them too, (HUH???)
We requested a breakdown or itemization of this $316.00 bill that we supposedly owed them, they sent us a copy of a contract with no signature by either of us on it and the only thing we saw was a $15. cancellation fee. It said nothing about a 2 yr. contract, early termination fee or anything. Do they just make these things up or what. What a bunch of crooked people running this company. Anyway, we decided to file a complaint with the Comsumer Protection people and we are definitely NOT paying these crooks another red cent.

My money back
Well i am a disabled customer of direct tv and they go in and take $1001 out of my checkin account without my permission and dats da only income i get for the whole month and like i pay the bill of $234 and i still dont get my 759 rebate they talkin bout it will take up yo 30 days i cant wait no 30 days cause i cant wait on my bills for that month cause i have medical bill and buy meds and i cant do anything without my money...

UNAUTHROIZED CHARGES
I am a college student that signed up for Direct Tv, but later had to move back home with parents and attempted to merge my Direct TV account w/my parents, was told I couldn't. Direct TV debit my debt account for over $750 leaving a large negative balance without prior notice from Direct that I owed any fees for the cancellation they made. After sevral hours on the phone and switched from rep. to rep. and a call to the cooperate office with no satifaction. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. HOPE SOMEONE DOES START A CLASS ACTION SUITE.

Lack of customer service
Our Direct TV receiver just quit one day. It wouldn't work. We have had direct tv for over 4 years. We got it when we moved here. Called Direct tv. They will send one to us and we will have to send it back within 7 days. Out of TV for a week. Got the new receiver, sent the old one back right away. TV works. Got a bill with all kinds of charges. One was for a DVR receiver that we never ordered or wanted. This would be an ongoing charge. One was for a ppv that they scanned from our old receiver that we never paid for over 2 years ago. One was for leasing of both receivers!! OK on the phone, 15 minutes the 1st time- they could not, would not change a thing. Next call is ongoing now for 63 minutes, 3 people, 4 supervisors. They intend, I suppose, to just ware us out and hope we will give up. Is this your strategy Direct tv? Yes, they will credit the movie. They will not take the DVR service off because they sent us the receiver that we never asked for. OK, we can pay 69.00 to take the DVR thing away- WHAT? I didn't order a service that they added on without asking if I wanted it!!! And they want me to pay the monthly!!! WHAT!!! No we won't pay the 69.00, send us the receiver without the dvr. They can do that if we pay shipping! WHAT! They sent a replacement receiver that included a dvr without asking if I wanted to pay for it on a monthly basis, they just added it to my bill, they now will send me one with out but I have to pay shipping!! ARE YOU CRAZY DIRECT TV. When will you ever get this right???? I'm outta here. ANGER is the word

Extended contract without my knowledge
I have been a Direct TV custome for 3 years. My original contract was for two years. Last year I purchased an additional receiver on line. Yesterday I called Direct TV to cancel my service due to high bill. They told me that my contract had been extended for two years becausen I activated a new receiver. The also stated that the receiver I purchased on line was actually theirs and that I'm only leasing it. Great racket huh? -- they extend my contract without giving me any notice or benefit for it. Does anyone know how I can fight this?

Unautherized billing
Hello,
My name is Jeff Key and I need you to know about an experience that I have been having with your company!!! I have never had an account with you but I have payed bills for friends and family to you on their behalf. When I made those payments I never once was told that my credit card would be put on file for future debt collections on those people! I was simply doing someone a favor or helping them out. Two weeks ago my credit card was billed $411.95, that's right for account that I have never had and an agreement that I never singed I was billed. I was never sent a bill, I was never notified of the debit from my account but I was sent into overdraft and now I have over $300.00 in overdraft fees on top of the $411.95 that your company STOLE from me!!! I have been a member of adult society for many years and have worked in business and for the last 11 years I have been a police officer, and what your company has done we call THEFT!! I am requesting that you look into this matter and see that it gets resolved. If this matter is just brushed under the carpet and forgotten about on your end, I assure you it will not be forgotten on my end. I have MY bills that are due now and I cant even pay them because of this whole thing and that's just costing me even more money that I don't have in this economy. However if you will fix this problem I will be grateful and I will go away, if not I will start by contacting my attorney to start Legal Actions that will be not so great publicity for you and your company. He will then run an ad in the news papers and on TV to find more people that you have done this to and it will turn out to a huge. I will follow that along with a copy of this email along with a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and any anti Direct TV groups out there.
Further more I have spoken with many different customer support people for your company, I have a conversation that took place between a supervisor who's name was Princess supervisor number 401426. She attempted to help me and told me that she had the matter resolved and that Direct TV would refund my money with in 8 Days along with the overdraft fees they you caused. I find out on this date that was a LIE!! Bad business ethics!
You can not just take someones money just because they paid a bill for a customer and that customer owes you money, you use debt collection. I am not responsible for anyones account and don't intend on being.

Do not get Direct Tv!!! I had service with them and moved. I tried to transfer the service for over a month and everytime they set up an appointment they cancelled on us after sitting here half the day waiting on them. Finally we told them forget it we want the service cancelled. They were supposed to have given us 3 different credits for not having service for over a month and cancelling on us which should have covered the cancellation fee, which I dont think we should have had to pay anyway. Then 4 months later they charged our account over $500 for cancellation fees and monthly service fees! They said we never cancelled the service so we were still getting charged and we owed for cancellation and that we didnt have any credits!! Do not sign up and give them your account number because they will charge you for whatever they want even though it was their fault for not cancelling the service to begin with when we told them to and not applying the credits that they "supposedly" gave us. All they have to say is "sorry, there is nothing we can do, you should have cancelled the service" even though we did!!
