No Refer a friend honor
Referred my mom to direct tv. Called verizon since she wanted to bundle TV with Verizon home phone & internet. They took the order, but when we gave my account # for the refer a friend program, we were told we had to call Direct TV. So we called & they took the order as well as my account # for the refer a friend credit. Got a call back from Direct TV to "verify" her order. Mom stated "you have my daughter & I down for the refer a friend credit, right?" They said no, you have to do that on line. BUT you can't do it on line once the order has been placed! Must be a scam. You give them the account # when you order, but they say you never did, so norefer a friend credit. Wonder how much they're making off this rip off!!!

Hidden Early Termination
Today we became DirecTV stooges too! We discovered after changing to another provider to lower costs that we had not saved anything because of the deceptive practices of DirecTV. DirecTV upon learning that we wanted to cancel promptly told us that we had a lease that had renewed a few months ago without our knowledge!
Upon reviewing the file we discovered that this came about because of a program upgrade which I initiated myself online. This then caused DirecTV to send us a new program listing. On the leaf of the program listing was an referral offer. I ignored this and filed the listing. Upon reading this program listing/promo(s) again during my review, I discovered that by upgrading my programming I had then caused DirecTV to call the house offering a (free) HD receiver upgrade. In very fine print underneath the 2nd offer it turns out that by accepting the HD (free) upgrade that I was committing to another two year lease term which now they will enforce ( a monthly fee for the term remainder of 18 mos.)
A word of caution: REVIEW YOUR CONTRACT FOR THE REMAINING TERM BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES. ANY CHANGE INCLUDING A PROGRAMMING CHANGE CAN TRIGGER AN EXT. OF LEASE (WHICH INCLUDES A PENALTY FOR EARLY TERMINATION = TO MONTHLY CHARGES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TERM.
ALSO, DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OFFERS OVER THE PHONE FOR FREE UPGRADES!
BUYING YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT DOES NOT CHANGE ANYTHING EITHER!
These are slippery practices perpetrated on "loyal" customers. In today's economic mess we have to practice defensive consumerism!

Absolutely worst service of any company
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST SERVICE OF ANY COMPANY! I waited a month for Direct TV to come out for an install, when they FINALLY did, the technician came up with every excuse he could think of not to do the install. Then they told me that they would come back first thing Friday morning at 8am. The technician NEVER showed up! They just don't care, they are a monopoly and don't give a crap if you buy their service or not. DO NOT GO WITH DIRECT TV!

billing and rebates
I am a new customer with direct t.v. and right from the start 1st. month of billing my bill was incorrect they never gave me a 200 dollar discount for a referral as advertised and my rebates were never given to me because they have given me the wrong website to set up spent over two hours on the phone with a total of 8 people including supervisors have gotten different answers from just about all of them seems to me there employees don't have the answers and just end up making there own stuff up . my biggest dispute is my reception is very poor do to a three triangular flight pattern from O'Hara airport witch causes my TV to have glitches and now direct t.v. is telling me that's normal and i have to just deal with it and if i cancel i would be charged an early cancellation fee . I also have everyone's names and badge numbers is there anyone that can help me or guide me in the right direction thanks Louie S.

Website stinks
The Direct TV website said to pay "X" amount. I did that. When it posted, my account said balance was $0.00. My service did not re-instate. Now they said to re-instate my service I have to pay an additional $29.00 because that will be how much my balance will be when it is turned back on. I don't have a problem with paying the bill, it shouldn't have said that my balance was zero. Very misleading. Then trying to speak with somebody on the phone is ridiculous. I am in Ohio and I am speaking to someone who knows where. Definitely not in the US. Makes you want to cancel service and just deal with regular stations.

contract not available
I spent almost the hours on the phone with COUNTLESS DirecTv representatives - asking for a copy of the contract I was interested in signing for a bundle service with them and Windstream. After being told that there was not a contract available, and being transferred back from the Phillipines, several times, I was told that the contract could only be delivered by the installation crew. ??? Kinda weird that they want you to sign-up without seeing the contract? After being transferred back to the USA (I guess), I was told the same thing. "No agreement for bundled service - no preview of the contract. Simple as that!" It is a really bad situation that we are living in - if we can not even see a contract before we agree to it. The USSR got over this - but maybe we are next. Anyone speak Russian - I may need lessons!

unauthorized deduction from cking acct
I gave my son and family the gift of the down payment for service with Direct TV...used my debit card. Over a yr later my son cancelled the service due to a move and not working. Direct TV charged my debit card $614.41 to clear his charges. I contacted them and told them that I was not responsible for his charges as I have my own acct in good standing. I was met with nothing but rudeness and refusal to reverse the charges. I have a disabled husband and we live on a fixed income and I have had to dispute the charge with my own bank. Direct TV assumes no responsibility for their actions and will keep the money until the bank makes them return it. Beware...Direct TV is nothing more than thieves and should be prosecuted for fraud.

over charged
I payed my February statement to Direct TV for $87.96 Direct TV cashed my check on March 8 and cashed my check again the next day on March 9 for the exact same amount with the same exact check number. I'm a supervisor of a retail store and I don't understand how that is virtually possible to cash the same check, with the same exact check number, for the exact same amount. I called Direct TV and spoke to a rep, she then transferred me to billing. Billing told me to take matters up with cooperate and my bank. That infuriated me and demanded I speak to a supervisor/manager. Once Direct TV cashed my check twice its their fault, not my banks. If this happens again, I'm switching cable companies. I will receive a $0 balance on my next billing statement but this was just so frustrating to be on the phone for 45 minutes to get the problem solved.

Poorest TV service on the planet
We have direct TV and every 24 hours or so the system goes down and takes over an hour to reset itself and come back on. THeir prices change with every billing cycle and their customer service or lack thereof really STINKS. They should be investigated by the BBB or Utility Regulatory Commission to say the least. If you are thinking about Direct TV, WAKE UP AND DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. You will be glad you did.
