unrecieved recievers
Canceled our service because we moved. Was told to UPS receivers back to Direct TV, which we did. That was OVER A YEAR AGO!!!
Now my wife and I are getting hounded by a collection agency saying we owe them money for the un-returned receivers. So now we have to dig through all of our stuff that is in storage and find the tracking number for the ups stuff. Why did the not contact us after a month or 2? A year you have to be kidding me!

False prices, transferring calls for over 45 minutes, lying about fixing the problem
The tech was here to install Direct TV. He offered an upgrade to HD. I talk to customer service who stated the HD was an extra $10.00 per month. I later recieved a request for $200.00 for the upgraded HD box. I was never told about this charge. I spent 45 minutes on the phone being transferred. I called back and threated to call an attorney. They said that the extra charge would be removed. A month later, I recieved a late noticed, and called back imediatley. Again, I was told that the $200.00 would be taken off. My service was cancelled a week later for non payment. I called again and was trasferred for over 25 minutes. It wasn't until I threatened a class action lawsuit that my problem was taken care of.
I would not recommend Direct TV to antone. This company is dishonest, does not value it's customers, and the only service you get is by threating a law suit.

Refund
I am 69 and my husband is 79 and in poor health.. we have a small
farm and my son's house in larger town with hospital..We signed
up for Direct TV through Verizon Bundle Package..
one year later, my husband had a stroke and additional medical
care.. I cancelled Direct TV as we were going to be gone many months
for his extensive health care..
When I received my credit card there was a charge for almost $700.00
with was not authorized by me or anyone else.. ( How can they do this?)
I disputed it, was taken off, the next month they put it back on again.
I found out they said it was for the equipment I had at this home/farm.
I was not sure when we were to return, I agreed to allow the $700 to
stay on Capital One and I was told it would be returned when I
resumed service. all would be returned..!!!
I called 1/12/10 all they had to do was click on a switch and I was
back to service.. I was told by Jesse that the refund would be
within 3 days.. received my Cap One bill yesterday.. NO REFUND.
a charge for $21.60 for DirectTV "hardware".. I didn't get any
hardware. and NO refund..
Called yesterday 2/4/2010.. one said 21 days.. another said that
was wrong.. I should have sent the equipment back..I mentioned
the saving to them of returning ..then they had to return to me,
send out a tech and I saved them a lot of money.. I thought they
were honest.. they are not.. the final person said it would be
refunded on March 3... I am sure they will make up another
story..
We are senior citizens and there are laws protecting us.. Why
is this not one of them..?? they should protect others also.
to take m0ney out of your account without your knowledge
is criminal..
Why are they not regulated? I paid interest on $700. for almost
a year.. my husband has been in hospitals and nursing homes
since Thanksgiving.. the charges are high. I needed the $700
to help pay the expenses of his health care..
after reading the other complaints I wonder if I will ever get
it back ???
DO NOT USE DIRECT TV.. THEY LIE TO YOU, AND A DIFFERENT
LIE EACH MONTH.. CONGRESS DO SOMETHING TO HELP US..

Cancellation fee
I cancelled my direct TV for poor service, I didn't receive a signal about half the time. When I had moved to my new place I they gave me a free upgrade to an HD receiver from my plain DVR one and APPARENTLY that renewed a new contract for two years. But... when I called to cancel I was told it would be a 140.00 cancellation fee and last night I was charged 391.00 on my bank account. As we speak I am on the phone with a representative that states "so sorry about the misinformation but you still owe"!!!
I would like to know of anyone that is thinking about hiring an attorney as this is bad all they way around and from what I can see this has happened to more that just me.

Job Opportunity
Watch out for the job posting ads throughout the internet job search boards. It's not a marketing manager, advertising manager, creative directors, entry level general manager, junior marketing associate, campaign developer, event coordinator, public relations specialist, customer service representative, etc. etc. When you send an e-mail you will immediately get a response back from Jennifer "the human resources recruiter" -- when in actuality it is a call-center girl being paid to do whatever she can to get you in to meet the "Jonathon". Obviously, she is getting paid to set up interviews because she will tell you everything you would ever want to know, except for the truth about the job. "Exclusive Promotions sets up ad campaigns and creative direct marketing options for Direct TV and VISIO." Yeah, right.
You walk into this "suite" where it turns out its an administrative desk that is being utilized by about 40 private offices of 40 different "companies". The "Jonathon" meets you and takes you back -- through a meandering maze of hallways and offices -- to his office, which my guest bathroom is larger than this. You meet his "assistant manager" and immediately he asks why you came in and what you are looking for in Exclusive Promotions. You tell him...
Immediately, he says, "That's not us. This is us." And shows you a picture of a Direct TV and VISIO display in a Best Buy. "100% commission. You eat what you kill. Is this for you? I made 300k last year, and I'm moving to Chicago. Is this for you?"
Would you want to work for someone who lies, misinforms, and is not willing to invest in you as an employee?

charging me without permission
I have never had a direct tv account and unfortunately my now ex does. I did him a favor which at that time he needed was to help with making a payment on his direct tv account, in Oct of 2009. With his situation he had lost his job and with that being said he never made a payment on the account after that. On Feb 2, 2010 I went to withdraw cash to pay for my rent(Which was due that day) and it said my account balance was alot less then I had anticipated it to be. So I call my bank and come to find out there was a charge for $815.58. I was in complete utter shock. I had them start the investigation immediately and have it reversed. They told me to contact Direct TV to find out why the charges were made...so I did. I guess b/c my card was the last one on file and with their policies they decided to go ahead and charge that account. I explained how my card was filed on there and they refused to help me. After going through 9 different associates and supervisors and 2 hours of arguing and fighting, they finally tell me to fax a copy of my bank statement verifying the charge and that my EX isn't on the account and then at that point they can help me. So on Feb. 3rd, 2010(today) I call them and let them know that it was fax and now they can have it returned...Well it wasn't that easy. After the first associate I spoke with tells me its going to take 6-8 weeks. The next supervisor tells me he will work on 3-4 days and then the following tells me 7-10 business days. I became so frustrated and exhausted from the fight. That's when I started to break down. All my bills were due and all I could think of was how am I going to be able to take care of this...the more I thought about it the more I got mad and I snap. I have been lied to by just about every employee and given the run around. At the end of day 2 of fighting I am still in the same situation. I have never been a member of Direct TV and at this point I never will. It disgusts me that I have spoken to a total of 24 different employees with a total of 7 hours of my time in a 2 day span and was told 24 different things as to why they wont reimburse me and that the only way that it will happen is if my bank disputes it and is willing to reimburse me.

Unauthorized Bank Charge
Signed up with Direct TvV online and tried to pay them with my pre-paid visa card they came back and said they did not accept pre-paid card as a payment I need to give them a real checking/debit card in order to start my service...So I got my Visa check/debit card and paid with that! A day later I look at my account and Direct TV took $25 three times from my credit cards.Twice from the pre-paid card they didn't authorize.A week later I still don;t have my money, no one will let me talk to a supervisor, and they are very rude and disrespectful.I do not recommend doing any kind of business with these scam artist!!!

Can't Record from DTV to a DVD recorder
We recently signed up for Direct TV and although so far we have only had a few problems with the signal (not too many to be fair)
The big problem is that we are unable to record anything either directly from the signal to a DVD recorder or from the DTV DVR to a DVD recorder. When attempting to do so the recorder stops the recording with a message saying that
"Copying of this material is not allow recording has stopped"
After a number of misleading calls to the company indicating that some shows maybe copy protected by the various channels etc. I eventually found out that the DTV "cable/satellite" box has something in it that prevents recording or anything to anything!!! This is probably so that you have to have their DVR and or because they eventually intend to charge you EXTRA for the privilage of recording shows you could record off the air if you didn't have their service.
According to the Tech that told me this they are aware of the problem and working on it but no time frame for when it will be corrected or even how long they have been working on it.
I'm no lawyer but this seems like it would fall under the area of nondisclosure of a material fact? Any attorneys out there interested in filing a class action?
Bottom line if you ever intend to record anything you might want to keep DON'T sign up with DTV!!! Once my contract is over I'm GONE!

Scam
I too am a victom of Directv's contract scam. I have been a customer with directv for five years.I called to cancel reciently because of the cost of service for a additional room. I was told that because i've been suce a long and loyal customer they would give me a reciever and instalation for free.Only after installation, when I was presented with a new contract, did I discover the catch! I refused the new contract, so they fired off a email stating that i'm under contract with them anyway!Really?, So I called to dispute, and was told, too bad, the 24 month agreement you signed five years ago states that if you recieve new equiment you will be under contact again. And that if i cancel the service i will be charged a heafty penality to my credit card. This is obvisally a scam.If your thinking about Directv dont! Thier scame artists. Beware.

Never choose them
It has been one month now since I ordered Direct TV . When I called to order, I was quoted a price of $35 for my plan (rebates for $10 AAA, $10 HD, $23 movie channels). Installer came on Thursday and after initally being told on the phone that installation was free, he tells me it will actually cost $150 b/c I need "custom installation." After getting upset, I agreed b/c I really did want the service. He worked for about 3 hours and then announces he can only get service for me in two of the 4 rooms I requested. I said that was unacceptable. So he disconnected all of the work he had already done and left. That night, I called Direct TV and they had no record that the installation had not been completed. Their computer showed it was completed. After 2 hours on the phone, I finally got another appointment for an "experienced technician" to come out and try to install the Direct TV. John, the customer service rep also told me to call back after installation and they would give me some additional credits to make up for all of the hassle. Saturday, the installer came and spent 10am-5pm at my house, but Direct TV was finally installed and functioning (after paying for custom work). One note, I was told that to get full service DVR (be able to watch TV and record another channel at the same time), I would have to pay an additional $60 for another outlet. I said forget it. I'll just have "minimal DVR." I was so ready to be done with Direct TV customer service, I did not worry about calling to get my additional "free credits" John referred to. Well, today (Thursday) I check my credit card bill and see a charge of $76.61 for 1st month of Direct TV. I call and after being on hold for a while, I finally get a rep. I explain that my first bill is supposed to be $35. He proceeds to explain that I have to pay $76 the first month and then credits should appear "some time in the future." I explain to him that this makes no sense and he says this is the way the computer always does the first bill. Then I mention getting the "credits" John referred to and he said that wasn't possible b/c that was offered from a technical person and they would have to give the credits. I tell him to transfer me to someone with more authority, which he agrees to. After waiting again, I finally hang up b/c I have no more time to spend waiting on the phone for Direct TV. I regret the day I decided to switch from Cable to Direct TV. Take my advice, do not let their false ads claiming lower prices convince you to switch. By the time you pay "custom installation, " spend 12 hours waiting on installation, and then don't even get the price you were quoted, it is not worth it. NEVER CHOOSE DIRECT TV. Stick with cable!
