Fraud
After moving and transfering my service OF MORE THAN 5 YEARS, Direct TV changed my package of channel selections without notice or authorization leaving us with NO LOCAL TELEVISION STATIONS, NO LOCAL NEWS, NO LOCAL SPORTS OR WEATHER! This was done 4 days after installation! We are not happy and this is totally unacceptable. Direct TV refuses to cancel service without us paying a penalty. If Direct TV had held up their end of the deal there would be no need to cancel service.
Very poor service with a even worse attitude. They sell you one package and then change it without notice!
BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!!!

Cancellation Svc Problem
We recently moved from Colorado back to WA. At the time it was due to job security and we had to move back to WA as I explained to their payment department. I told them to come and get all the equiptment as I would not be using it in WA because the svc for the house we rent is Comcast. They informed me that they would not pick up the equiptment since we were under a contract and that I would keep being charged for the monthly service until the end of contract irregardless of the circumstance. Now it is on my credit and I have sent in an explanation but they will not speak to me and I have a full box in my garage with all the equiptment. I am sadly dissappointed that their so called contract can ruin your credit when you have a change of financial security within your household. Take head anyone signing a contract in the current economy because it could cause your credit to take a dive because of the inflexability of this company.

Billing
DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT sign up with DIRECT TV. We used their service for approximately three years and cancelled our service this past April. Yesterday, August 3, 2009, FOUR months after the cancellation, they billed our credit card 71.00$, for a PPV event that happened TWO YEARS AGO. According to them, they said we never paid for the event. We told them that our bill was always payed on time and there was never any indication that we did not pay for the event. I cannot explain how livid I was and still am. We told them it was unethical, and that we will be contacting the FFC and anybody else who will listen for this flagrant act otherwise known as STEALING!!!. These guys are scum. I will never do business w/ them again. EVER. Buyer beware!!!

Destroyed my Credit Rating
My company moves me and as a result, I went from one account to another. Instead of transferring the service a new account was issued, therefore they charged me $197 for breaking the contract, even though I have been with them the entire time. I was never contacted and it went into collections and as a result my credit rating went from 715 to 623, as a result of thier neglect. Dispite the fact that I have proven that I have been with them in excess of the 2 year contract, they refuse to reverse the charges and I have found myself at a dead end. My only option is small claims court. walk away or continue to dispute through the Credit Agencies (Experian & Transunion). The time and energy I have spent on this is exausting! Bottom line...they are fat cats that know they can get away with this and so they do. My contract is up in November of this year and I will certainly end my contract with them. Whatever you do...DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH

Early Termination Fees
Direct TV has a very poor service. I was adviced by Direct TV that there is not a charge for early termination fees because there is no contact or a commitment if I sign up. I just found out today that I can not cancel the service with them until my contact is over. I'm now stuck with them for 24 months. It's not a good business pracetice by misleading the consumers.

UNAUTHORIZED DEBIT
In this horrible recesion our family had the choice to eat or have our service cancelled. Of course we chose the latter. Only to find that Direct TV charded the card that I had on file with them back from the begining when they charge you the small fee to begin service. BEWARE they hide this information in the first bill that you receive. You agree by default to allow them to charge any money owed to them to this card. They charged my account 650.00. I am not sure what these charges were for. I assumed it was for the 325.00 I owed for the bill and the early canncelation fee, but I just received another bill for an additional 975.00 which includes a 320.00 early cancellation fee. Of course I am now in the negative in my account because the bank takes the highest amount against your account. I called to see if they at least would spread this amount over a few months and they said "sorry". I feel angry and cheated and most of all duped! I realize that I have to pay my bill but I never would of agreed to this automatic payment. In addition I have no idea as to how much more they are going to bill me. I had to change my debit card # to be assured they would/could not charge it again. I have never had any company ever do this before. Just BEWARE and always read every contract very carefuly and dont forget to read the backs of your bills either!

ethics
I have been a long time direct tv customer. I am mortified by the service received. On June 13th, I had a installer from direct tv come out and stated he would be able to set up a dish behind the garage. He closed out my order and over the next three weeks never came out even though he said he would. He requested $$ from me to get some equipment. After calling direct tv and verifying my account was ok (although closed, they told me it was open) I gave him $84.00.
I called direct TV, they said they would follow up. They set up another installation. The day of the installation no one arrived even though they had emailed me a confirmation. I called, they said it was cancelled in error. I will not see my $$ again. They are not very ethical about who they hire. I discourage anyone from becoming a customer. As a long time customer, I get this treatment, imagine how you will be treated.

Poor Servive
Floyd Deloney has been a loyal customer since the onset of Direct TV satelite service. EVERY TIME it rains or we have a thunder storm, the satelite service cuts off. Also, they play the same shows on the all the time for years. We are unhappy and therefore we are changing satelite servicr and will no longer have Direct TV.

Not honoring aggreement
Direct TV agreement was for a two yr contract at $39.99 per month, to include 156 channels, two recievers, and free installation. Also, agreed was a $100.00 rebate to the friend recomending them to me, as well as a $100.00 rebate to myself.
As I do not have a bank account, we used my mothers American Express account to process the agreement, of which there was a $35 dollar charge to initiate the service.
When I called to get the promised rebate, I was told that they would not let me get the rebate or take the information for a 30 day time period. I even thought this was irregular, and indeed tried to start the rebate again, one week later, again, they would not let me file for the rebate.
Now, they have charged my Mothers American Express account the amount of $35 dollars, and ALSO have sent me an additional bill for the amount of $61.48. I called them and asked if there perhaps was a billing mistake, and was told, "NO", as the rebate had not been started, and that I could do that over the internet. I told them this was not right, and that I had agreed to pay the monthly charge of $39.99, and that I would not pay the higher amount they now wanted. They said that after NOW filing for the rebate, that it would take about 8 weeks, and I would be billed again for another $61.48, until the rebate came into effect. Also, they also told me that the rebate would be over a 10 month time period of a reduction in cost of $10 per month.
I then told them this was NOT what I had signed up for and agreed to, and that they were not honoring the agreement, and that if this was how their service was to be, that I indeed wanted to cancel the service. They then told me that I would be charged $480.00 for early termination. With this I have not applied for the rebate, as for fearing if I do, that I will be further putting myself and my Mothers credit card in jeopardy. What should I do????
