Direct TV Reviews

Rebate
I signed up for Direct TV in early May 2009. I was promised a rebate of $21 a month for the first year. The installer did tell me that I had to go online to sign up for it, something I wasn't told when I originally signed up.

Following his advice I went online, signed up, only to be told by the website that at this time no rebate was available to me.

I called Direct TV, explained the problem and the customer service representative assured me he had taken care of the problem and it was resolved.

Three months into the bills from Direct TV I still have not received a rebate so I called again 7/9/09. I was told nobody could access my account even with my password, that the IT department would send me an email with a generic password so I could access my account. No emai was ever sent.

Yesterday I emailed them again to report the problems I was having, no response.

This is very frustrating, it as though if they make it difficult they will never have to pay these promised rebates out. I have read online several complaints of the same nature.

Thank you for your time.

fraud
When I ordered Direct TV through Expert Satellite they told me that my first month including tax would be 49.99 with HBO and Showtime. I discovered later that this deal wasn't in effect for 3 months. I would owe $100. each month, then 64.99 for the following months. Originally I actually called two different representatives to confirm this price so this scam is clearly well organized. They were reading from a script.

Also, I was told that cancellation was only $200. when it is actually $480. I found this out after 3 months when I wanted to cancel. The service was so horrible that I was willing to pay 200. but not 480.

I am contacting the BBB tomorrow.

CANCELLATION ISSUES AND ATTITUDE
IVE CALLED DIRECT TV LIKE 3 TIMES TODAY TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE MY BILL HAS GONE UP SO MUCH(54.99 TO 78.99) AND IVE FINISHED MY CONTRACT. FIRST TIME I CALLED THEY JUST KEPT ON SENDING ME TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. SECOND TIME, I GOT TO THE CANCELLATION DEPARTMENT ACCORDING TO THEM AND ONCE I SAID I CALLED TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT THE HUNG UP. THIRD TIME THEY ANSWERED MY CALL WITH A BAD ATTITUDE AND SAID THAT I NEED TO BE THE PERSON IN THE ACCOUNT AND TO CALL A DIFFERENT NUMBER THAT HE GAVE ME TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT. ONCE I CALLED THAT NUMBER NO ONE ANSWERED. DONT GET DIRECT TV. GET VERIZON FIOS

Deceptive Information
Contacted Direct TV because they were advertising a special. I talked to a rep on Friday 20 June 2009 and decided on a plan. She mentioned that they will be deducting $25 from my account and I told her that I could not do it that day as the money would not have been in there until the Sunday( 21st June 2009) so I would just wait until Monday(22 June 2009) to call back and accept the plan. . She told me not to worry that they would not take the money out until Monday. We then tried to get a scheduled date for intall. Could not get a scheduled date until the next Thurday( 25 June 2009). when spekign to the Rep I asked her how long did I have before I could decided on keeping the service. She told me I can cancel after 15 days or have to cancel by the 15th day. I received numerous call on the Saturday(20 June 2009) by a technician who told me he was coming to do an install. I was surprised by this because I still had my old cable. Anyway he came and did a lousy job. He left all the clippings on the floor, he did not clean up clipping he left on the patio and then he filled out the Customer review form himself and gave it to me to sign. Single woman and this guy is in my apt telling me to sign here. What will I do. I called Direct Tv on the Monday and reported this. Called Direct TV on Sunday July 5 2009 to cancel the service and they told me that I would have to pay a fee. I told him about the 15 day grace period and he kept putting me on hold. Finally after speaking with a supervisor it was determined that my state did not allow a 15 day grace period and they will not honor what the first rep told me. I asked him how would I not have known about this 15 day grace period if I was not told about it. He apologized about the misunderstanding and todl me that I would have to pay $462.00 to cancel. He told me I was locked into the contract.

I am seeking information on corporate office contact.

Hi jacking of the ability to watch local sports teams
It is no longer possible to watch your local sports teams. Without paying for MLB or NFL Sunday ticket. If you have cable or satellite you might get lucky and find one on some obscure sports channel that you still have to pay for monthly. So I'm going to do all I can to start a boycott of Direct TV.

CANCELLATION ISSUES
My wife and I called to cancel our Direct TV account. We called in May and now in June we are getting past due bills. When we called about these bills, we were told, first-that our account was cancelled and they did not understand why we were getting bills. They gave us to another department where a jerk by the name of Benjamin informed us that because of a disagreement with my wife when she called in may, that our cancellation was not complete and that now we owe $117.00. After going rounds with Benjamin he turned us over to Robin, who was at least a little calmer about the situation. Robin proceeded to try to explain to us why one of their employees told us that our account was closed and yet another told us that we owe them money. Well to say the least I'm pissed with the whole thing and want to warn anyone who uses them to really cross your T's and dot your I's when cancelling their services. Sincerely unhappy.

Unauthorzied Payment
In June of 09 my account was hit by Direct TV for the amount of 907.50 for a service I never had. I have a son who attends college in nacogdoches TX who ordered Direct TV over the telephone at his apartment. My son was authorized by me to make a payment for his bill in Dec.08 and Mar. 09. When school was out he came home for a month and returned back to Nacogdoches for summer school. Upon his arrival back o school his cabel was turned off and they said he did a early disconnection, which is not ture. Direct TV never had the mailing address correct or the telephone number correct so they could not ever pull up the information when I inquired about this matter. The way we had to get the information was from the card in the cabel box which is #002451913897. I made several attempts to get my money put back into my account I spoke with some on on June 16, which was Girly, June 17 Megan, June 25 Jessica and July 3 which was India and Lisa. I was old by Customer service India that since I didn't dispute the payment in December and March then I was not going to get a refund back. I nor my son ever gave authorization t o Direct TV to take 907.50 out of my account. I am the primary account holder of this account. He has never gave Direct TV any account when he called for the service. I am still trying to get my money refunded back to my account. I will try to seek legal service to try to retrieve my money back.

Signs us up for 24 months without telling us. Then raises prices, without telling us.
I have been a customer of Direct TV for 5 years. In those 5 years, I was happy with Direct TV's service. However, at the beginning of this year, I ordered HBO. The rep. told me that HBO came with Cinemax in a package. I told her I did not like nor want Cinemax. She told me that it was free, I insisted I did NOT want it. Three months later, I called and cancelled HBO. I had forgotten about Cinemax because I didn't know I had it. As a package deal, however, you would think that if I'm cancelling one part of the package (HBO) that would also include Cinemax. It didn't. The rep. kept quiet and Direct TV kept billing me for Cinemax after I'd cancelled HBO. I didn't even know I had it because of family illness and no time to look at statements. I called today to cancel ShowTime and find out that I've been billed for Cinemax all of this time. Not only that, but most importantly, when I bought a new TV, I called Direct TV to install another DVR box. The installer, nor the phone rep. never mentioned that this would extend my contract for another 24 months. If I had known this, I would have kept my own Hughes box, that I purchased years ago. Isn't it required that a company tell the customer that their contract will extend? Especially when you've been a loyal customer for 5 years? I was never told by anyone that my contract would extend, especially since I was only leasing a new box and I have the protection plan. My monthly bill jumped from $57.00 to $98 dollars. When I called, I got the run around about the contract. They did, however, partially refund the Cinemax bill. Is this the way to run a company? Shouldn't it be mandatory that Direct TV tell the customers what to expect when leasing new equipment? Shouldn't everything be explained to the customer? Especially when the customer is a senior and it's impossible to read the tiny print (if it was there) when I signed for the second leased box? Direct TV is keeping us hostage untill 2011 because we leased and are paying monthly for their equipment--without mentioning that this would extend our contract, which was long past. This is lying by omission to keep us with them and not allowing us to cancel and go to another provider. This is not right and there should be laws against this type of kidnapping of a customer's right to choose.

false advertising
Worst service I have ever dealt with. people are rude, treat you as if you are dummy. They quote you one price and it ends up being way more. they add charges that you never agreed to. when you try to solve the problem they just tell you TOUGH CRAP YOU ARE STUCK WITH US. That is some way to do business . I would never recommend Direct tv to my worst emeny.
