Go to Dr. Kline at your own risk!
First of all, expect for wait for a long, long time. Even if there is no one there. Today I saw how they schedule people for noon, but he actually only comes in at 12:30. He also wastes a lot of appointment time going on tangents about god knows what.
Dr. Kline is extremely ignorant and unprofessional. I had the TB vaccine because I am from the Soviet Union. I suggested to him that I may be sensitive to the skin test for TB, which he interpreted as a diagnosis of TB in my Fallopian tube. I was extremely uncomfortable with his unnatural preoccupation with women's parts. He also prescribed me a chest X-ray for a positive PPD on May 4th, 2 days before even reading the test! I still have it on paper with his signature. He said, "I hope you are not pregnant, don't want all that radiation affecting the baby."
His reasoning behind such a grave diagnosis was that he decided I am "ignorant" and that Russia has not been doing this vaccine for 50 years. Nothing I said to him would change his mind. There is no need for me to even get into my personal knowledge of Russians getting this vaccine. According to the World Health Organization, Russia is still giving a course of the BCG vaccine up to 5X, beginning from infancy.
I had a feeling I should have just left, but I had already paid my $30 co-pay, and I need this test for my school. I decided to do it--big mistake! I came back at 9:30 on May 6th to have it checked. That was when I realized that there is no one at this office who knows how to properly read the Mantoux test, including eventually Dr. Kline himself! I was told he finds his staff by posting fliers in nursing schools because he doesn't want to pay actual professionals and they know as much. When I asked for someone to take a ruler and measure it because this is the standard procedure, Dr. Kline said he "doesn't need to do that, he can just look at it" (from 10 feet away). When I questioned his methods, he walked over to the door and asked me to leave or he was going to have me arrested!
Keeping in mind that on May 4th, Dr. Kline threatened to report me to the CDC if my test was positive; when I saw he obviously had no intention of even trying to follow procedure in reading the test (he already had his diagnosis, remember?), I went right to the emergency room at RWJ Hospital. Dr. Kline and his diagnosis became the joke of the hour. Every nurse, doctor and PA there told me to seek a new doctor. In fact, I happened to be treated by a doctor who was born in the UK and says he still has a reaction to the TB Skin test just like I do. This reaction looks different compared to a positive reaction, but Dr Kline and his staff wouldn't know that because they think this is a color test rather than a test of induration. Dr. Kline and his staff were just like, "it's red, it's positive" This is ignorant because your whole arm can be red and still test PPD-.
I was also told that if someone says they have the vaccine, the policy is to never give them the Mantoux test period. Dr. Kline should have known that, but he thinks no one has gotten this vaccine for 50 years now! His ignorance has real consequences for his patients. He is a backwards, creepy doctor who wants to play "Dr. House" with people's health, giving them diagnoses without even looking at tests.
To add insult to injury, I received a letter from him saying he does not want to be my doctor anymore because I do not respect him or his office. He's right! The letter also warns me that I should seek treatment because I may potentially have tb. The audacity of him to add this personal "love letter" to the top of his office's acknowledgement of my request for my medical records from him. Especially since I faxed over the report from the ER that clearly states he was wrong. And what exactly did I do to disrespect him, say that I want a second opinion and that his staff have no idea how to read the test?? This has been proven true. Time for Dr. Kline to face the facts and hopefully retire before he endangers anymore patients with his incompetence and his staff who have no idea what they are doing.
