theft
I utilized Hughes Net because of living in a rural area and it was the only internet provider I could get (now thankfully I have Comcast). I worked from home and had an internet meeting and no surprise here, my Hughes Net was out. It was unusable 3 weeks out of 4 that month. I called tech support several times that month to no avail. I cancelled the service and paid $284.54 for an early cancellation fee-I also disputed the $119.99 for the month of service I did not receive. Now, THREE YEARS later, out of the blue, I get with no warning a collection letter for the $119.99. I called Hughes Net and they said we can't do anything about it. Pure theft! I got no service, they will damage my credit if I don't pay this. Never let anyone you know use them!!!

Customer service
I called Hughes Net preinstallation department and ask to speak with a manager. A manager by the name of Juley answered the phone and was very unprofessional and rude to me. I can't believe a manager could act like this. I am going to go with a different satellite company. I will not do business with anyone like this. I am glad Juley does not work for my company.

bad speed, horrific help support
I live in a rural area and got tired of dial up so I called hughes net. After they set it up, it was horrific. After five minutes of surfing it was a big problem.I tried to do banking, it was too slow, tried watching a video I waited twice as long as the video was. I tried to get out of it but they signed us up for a two year contract so we were stuck with it. After two years of that nightmare, we switched to the wireless broadbrand form red shift. If you plan to buy hughes net do not!!!

internet speed is awful
I was told hughes.net was offering high speed internet to out of the way localities through a goverment grant. It was susposed to be way faster than dial-up. No buffering at all on u-tube etc. What a lie! It takes forever just to load a page without downloading any videos etc. If they received a goverment grant for this, the government needs to see that they are living up to their offer. I am totally disappointed and now since I have left my other service extra charges will apply to installation when it was free when I first received it.

service and speed
Hughes net speed is a joke. Don't believe their "lightening speed" commercials! I have had to upgrade to the 89.99/month package just to not violate their unfair "fair usage policy" and still end up violating it quite easily! At 90.00 a month I should be able to load web pages quickly and easily at their advertised lighting speed and have top of the line service! I am living up to my fullfillments but they are not. Email is a nightmare! They should check into how other service providers have their sites set up and hopefully they would learn something on how to be user friendly. Don't know what country their costumer support comes from because I can't understand them! I had simple questions about how to use their email, but they couldn't even answer my simple questions about their own site. This means hughes net are posers - they APPEAR to have customer service when in reality this is really just a sham. They get you because they cater to areas where comcast, fios, etc. are not available. But when they are, I'll be running to them!

No service
After a year of putting up with poor service or no service at all, I found these posting and realize we are not alone. I will most certainly join in a lawsuit. They threaten me with early termination fees when they are the ones not holding up their end of my service contract. I have already paid them $600 for equipment mand installation initially and continue to pay $60 monthly for nothing. My husband drives 20miles RT 2 to 3 nights a week to get on the internet to download and submit course assignments. We have done this for the past year thinking we must be exceeding our usage, but now that I can check our usage I see that we do not meet or exceed our limit. Oh, but for $125 they will send a technician out! Had enough.

LIARS AND THIEFS
I have never been treated like this! These men that you have to talk to treat you like you are nothing because you are a woman, well guess what I am something!!! It took me 30 minutes just to pay my bill over the phone yesterday because the man kept saying that it did not need to be paid. Then today is even worse I have went over my download limit so now my computer is slower than dial up!! So after an hour on the phone with some jerk that will not transfer me to a Supervisor, all he wants to do is let me use some TOKEN that will let me start over on my limit for TODAY ONLY, I tell him NO, I asked to just tell me how much it will cost to just cancel my contract so I finally get transferred to a woman. She is in the middle of fixing my problem ( without being hateful or treating me badly) and we get disconnected so I call back and they refuse to transfer me to her even though I have her information, they also refuse to transfer me to a Supervisor again, they argue that they can help you, they repeat the same thing over and over again and they act like because I am an AMERICAN that I am stupid. I asked again the cancellation price, So they put me on hold for over ten minutes before I am disconnected again, So I call back tell the woman she cant help me let me talk to a Supervisor, and again I am told no, she informs me that she is looking at my account so I should just let her take care of it, 15 minutes later nothing, for the third time I ask for the cancellation price, finally they transfer me to a supervisor and she can't do anything either. She tells me that I am able to use it today because I have USED my one free TOKEN because even though I told that first man NO he still used it. So For the forth time I ask how much it will cost to cancel my service, how much is the early termination fee, this supervisor is trying everything to just not tell me, she is giving me free tokens and everything, after i am so PISSED because no will tell me anything she finally tells me. The way that I went about buying my equipment used (so I could have the older model because I travel) that I HAVE NO CONTRACT AND THERE IS NO FEE!!! They didn't want to tell me because they wanted me to think I was obligated to keep this service. The plan I have is the bid plan over $100.00 plus I paid 275.00 the day of installation, and I paid for my equipment. These people are ASSES who want to take your money and not provide a relable service!!

Improper Debt Collection
As a customer for Hughes Net satellite internet for over three years I was a happy customer until my house burned down and destroyed the equipment. I was of course no longer under the minimum contract requirements. I called up to cancel my service and the outsourced help desk folks talked me into suspending the account. Before I got the house rebuilt (it took nearly 11 months) Hughes Net reactivated the service. I argued that they should cancel the account and that I wasn't going to pay them when I could not use it as I had not yet repurchased the modem, etc. They told me they would discount from 100 to 80 dollars. I refused to pay even 80 dollars for no service when I was not under contract. I had my credit card company request nonpayment, and HughesNet refunded the money. Then they sent me to collectioin and had the collection agency hound me for two months before I gave in and paid them the 100 dollars. This comes at a price to them however as now I will spend time over the next two years complaining about their abuse of consumers. Was it really worth the 100 you stole from me Hughes Net?
I plan to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the new Consumer Protection Agency, etc. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.
Regards, Scott Larkin

Downloan Policy
I specifically got up early to go online to bring up a couple of websites.
I also got onto Hughes Net last week to check their policy for downloading after having to pay to have my download meter reset. This is something they did not let me know about when I signed up with them. It stated that downloads were free during 2:00 am until 7:00 am. At 5:30 am I looked at the meter and it had gone down by 30% by just bringing up one item.
I am now down to 30% on my meter. It has not reset itself (as their website claims it will) since day before yesterday.
What are my options other than to go with another provider? I've talked to them regarding this subject before with no real outcome.
