Slow Service and Credit card ripoff
I signed up for their DSL service. They installed the dish and left. It was impossible to get online on the weekends. Very slow always.
We could not understand the people they had for help. We would give up trying to understand them.
When we told them we wanted to discontinue their service they told me I would owe them $400.00. I went online with Chase Credit Cards and found they had hit my card for about $370. dollars.
I never gave them permission to ever use my card. I do not know how they got the numbers as I was going to pay them with my Bank Bill Pay service.

no promised rebate on termination
We purchased the equipment upfront, fulfilled our 24 month contract and as stated in the contract should receive a $200.00 check for return of the equipment. They are telling us don't bother sending it back as there will be no check.

poor service
Terrible service, compressed, file uploading, (can result in corrupted data) Cached data servers employed, (results in out of date static service) unable to use in any vpn application, forget games, services slows to dialup and slower, even clouds will disrupt service, forget it when it is raining, there is no support, period, no one speaks english as a primary language.
they will never admit that they are at fault, always they approach support with the idea that it is your problem, not that they have over sold the available bandwidth.
Avoid at all costs, stick with dial up it is better service.

rebate hassel
When I first signed up for Hughes Net I was told it would be free installation. This was a lie! I had to pay$245.00, because they would not let me lease the receiver. They said because I lived in Vt. I had to buy it. Because I had to buy it they could not give me free installation. They told me I would however Qualify for two rebates- $100.00, and a free months service. I am college educated and not computer illiterate. It has taken me over 2 hours to get all the information needed to do this. I hope I get it.

download problems
I have had all kinds of problems with the internet service since I got it about 1 year ago. For a while I was having to call them at least once a month with problems getting on. Now when I am browsing the internet It shows that I am downloading information. I called and talked to the supervisor of tech support to be told that it is somehow my computers problem. That either something is being downloaded from a website without my knowledge or that it is doing automatic up dates, of which is set for 4am (in the free time) . I am told to contact my computer supplier and find out how my computer is downloading from the internet without authorization or that my virus software is not working(when it says it is). In my opinion they do this to try to get you to upgrade your service. I think this service sucks. I had at&t before and could not get high speed internet where I live, but I will gladly go back to it when I can get out of this 24 month contract. All I can say is don't get this service. It is horrible.

Customer Service and Internet
This is the worst company to deal with. Customer Support totally unsatisfactory. The worst service ever. Tried to get it corrected and still no help from customer support. I tried to get a home office address for Hughes Net and have been looking for days on the internet as well as trying to get a phone number. No luck! Does anyone out there know how to file a complaint against this company!

AVOID HUGHES NET! Like others I had a choice of dial-up or satellite. Their commercials are misleading -- the only "high speed" is their elite package which is almost $200 a month! I've also had to deal with FAP's and been unable to do anything for 1 or 2 days until they released my account. I'm finally in an area where I can get wireless internet (I knew cell towers had to be good for something!) and tried to cancel my Hughes account after 18 months. Found out that I'm locked in for 6 more months, although I have no paperwork showing a 24 month commitment. They guy in India (or wherever they're located) said by initialing some statement on the install form I'm bound by the terms of the agreement. They said they could suspend my acct. for 6 months with no payment, but after that it would be active and I still had to honor the remaining 6 months. Their cancellation fee was $300 or $50/month instead of the usual rate - big deal! At least Verizon only charges $175 if I cancel early! Do whatever else you can for internet service! Oh yeh - I also own the modem & satellite dish - target practice anyone??

Fair Access Policy Rip Off
Hughes Net is a major rip off. They severely punish you with molasses slow browsing (slower than the worst dial-up) if you see too much streaming media. All forms of streaming media are considered downloads according to Hughes net. Hughes Net is very expensive for the sorry access you get.

Fair acess policy
I have had it with this policy that limits usage on a daily basis based on which service you purchase. I personally have the pro which allows you to download up to 300 megabytes of info daily. The problem with this is that most of today's software is a lot larger than 300 meg therefore you either have to wait until the hours between 2am - 7 am or go through the hassle of using download manager software. I prefer to do my own down loading. so after being with hughes net for over two years I am going to try Wild Blue at least they allow usage based on a monthly amount, which for about the same price I pay Hughes Net I get more high speed download time. Check out Wild Blue cause Hughes Net SUCKS!!

sub standard service
the service is not as good as we were told it would be, there are interruptions in the service on a daily basis, here is how the average technical support call goes, check to see if the modem is working correctly. Yes, the modem is working correctly, the light are lighting up the way they should, so it is not a problem with the modem, No it is not a problem with the modem. <br />

So let us check you computer, ok well do that, after checking with the computer (which is brand new and still under factory warranty) we discover that low and behold there is nothing wrong with our brand new computer. <br />

So now let us see about some other issue, please hold. <br />

After coming back to the phone, they tell us that it is the fault of the website which I am attempting to connect to.<br />

People People, people, when will you stand up like a man and accept that your service is not what you advertise it to be?
WE constantly see advertisements on TV stating that hughes net is so great yet, once you agree to a 24 month contract, you never again get to speak to an american, and never will they ever admit that they are the problem, it will always be a problem with your brand new computer.
or a problem with the cables, or a problem with the modem, or a problem with the equipment or a problem with the router, or a problem that is some other problem which at this time we cannot determine what the problem may be, if you want to spend hours of your time on the phone get hughes you will love it,
If you have an elderly person that gets lonely get hughes they can spend hours talking to someone on the phone,
