worked great for me don't be fooled by techno idiots
Mine works great. In fact i can't believe how great it works. the thing is much clearer than my traditional land line was.
I run mine on my desktop computer hooked to a time warner high speed cable modem.
I told all my extended family becuase it really truly is great.
We ditched our regular landline.
the only difference is with the majic jack when I lift the handset it takes about 1 sec instead of instantly to get the dial tone and the software pops up in the middle of my screen whenever i lift the handset (which is kind of annoying.)
I have the same panasonic digital 900 mhz wireless handset with caller id hooked to the majik jack that used to be hooked to my land line. the phone doesn't know the difference. gets the same caller id signals etc.
if you are having problems I don't know why.
My first thought after having it the first week was "damn all the phone companies are going to be put out of business - can I short their stocks?"
It is great great great.
Who ever is having problems is doing something wrong.
one more thing.
You can choose a number from pretty much any city in the USA no matter where you register as your 911 address.
you can also change that number one time for no charge and more times for $10 charge.
Folks the magicjack is NOT a scam. I EXPECTED it to work badly but it works GREAT. I have NEVER had a problem with it and calls are clear. I am actually amazed that there is NO LAG in the conversation. I really don't know how they do it.

poor customer service!
have used for over a month - very poor customer service. countless hours in chats that result in the operator telling me to change settings on my computer and when I ask "why" they respond "just do it". none of their fixes have worked - I still get these annoying loud beeps during my calls. DO NOT USE MAGICJACK unless you want the poorest customer no-service ever!

local phone number
i purchased magicjack and cancelled my land line service only to find out there is no local phone service from majicjack for my area . this means my famly and neighbors/friends have to call long distance to call me this is a distaster if my family was to become sick and need to contact me

MagicJack Idiot Complaints
I have read a number of the complaints about the MagicJack and and I am in awe of the idiots that could not get them to work. I bought 1 MagicJack a year ago and installed it im my home (Charter Cable not DSL) and it worked immediately. I have subsequently purchased three more and I am using them at my business. All working great. I have one telephone line into my business for the Fax and the DSL (Cost about $89.00/Month). The other three I use to conduct my business. I eliminated three Verizon lines at a cost of about $149 per month. Some people just like to hear themselves complain. I have "chatted" with all three levels of their tech support on-line and they are ok. So shut up already.

BEWARE: Magicjack will not replace bad units bought through third parties
Beware! Magicjack will not replace a unit that goes bad from Walgreens or any other third party. They state that it is in their terms of service which are not clearly marked on the box when you buy it. Here is the actual chat log I had with the Tech Supervisor, Nikki.

Jeff: I bought it about a month ago at Walgreens.
Jeff: I still have the original package.

Jeff: I believe it's over 30 days. That is really bad customer service. The item was working, now it's defective. That's your problem, not Walgreens. Also, I want to keep the same number because I gave it to all my friends and family, and believe me, that takes quite a bit of my time to do.
Nikki: Please refer to our terms of service. We don't process a replacement if the product was not purchased directly from us..
Jeff: So, I would have to buy another one because your item is defective? I would like to speak to your supervisor.
Nikki: I am one of the supervisors here that's why Scott transferred you to me..
Jeff: Who's your boss? I want to speak to that person.
Jeff: I am beginning to see why your service is 19.99...However I paid 49.99 for it at Walgreens, not 19.99.
Nikki: He's not available right now. Supervisors are your last resort. Trust me Jeff, if you bought the MJ from us, I would be happy to replace it just to settle this problem. But we really don't replace the device if the product was not purchased directly from us. And it is written in the terms of service

magicjack is everything they say it is not the company reps but all the folks that have been ripped off by this fraudulent bsI cant figure why no one has brought a class action lawsuit against this company they should be made to pay and be held responsible for this scam against the everyday trusting consumer public what the h is going on when the US attorney general lets this go on why havent they been shut down just my humble opinion but sounds like a lot of folks are of the same opinion

I have a MagicJack which has not worked right for a long time. I have contacted MJ on their "Support Chat" page numerous times and each time went through a similar, long process with the "tech" only to end up being transferred to "a higher level of support" finally, today, I decided to try one more time. Following is a transcript of the "support chat" session:

Frank: I am continuing to have an ongoing problem with MJ and have attempted to deal with it with a number of agents the process is always time consuming and the problem is not corrected. Every time I reboot or start my computer the same message always appears about connecting to a USB port - THE ONLY WAY I have ever been able to correct this problem is to quick format the second drive MJ creats (k:).
Jezebel: Hi Frank.
Frank: After formatting I may start MJ and it will start normALLY.

Frank: I know the license expires and I want the device to function properly before I renew it. I don't think it's reasonable for me to have to purchase additional equipment when simply trying a replacement MJ will probably solve the problem (unless MJ knows of things I don't know and is not telling me) If a replacement does not work then I should consider a hub.

Frank: Under the circumstances, if I decide to try a replacement MJ, since MJ won't replace the device, I'll buy one a Walmart and if it doesn't work properly, I'll return it for refund and be done with MJ. I think it's inappropriate for MK to require anyone to spend money to extend someting that doesn't work properly in order to replace that thing. It's bad business practice and does not demonstrate good faith.
Frank: It should be obvious by looking at the record that I have spent a great deal of time on the chat support page trying to resolve the problem without success.
Dover: I know how are you feeling right now Frank. I cannot give you a replacement magicjack since it will expired soon..I hope you understand me
Frank: A replacement should probably have been provided long before this however the agents ignored discussing that solution. I am disappointed in MJ's business practices.
