Unlimited calling is not true
My wife was out of town so I was talking to her long distance from S.C. to Arizona a hour or two at night on magicjack that was suppose to be unlimited calling. I had just bought the 5 year extension plan and it was starting 10-30-2010 when I went to use my phone it was off. I called got a representative on live chat that told me I had misused magicjack. I asked how he said it was computer Generated and nothing I could do about it. That I had violated terms of service I again asked him to show me where I had violated the terms and he replied that it was computer generated and nothing I or he could do about it. So if you are talking long distance for a hour or two at night and they get your money for five years watch out you will be violating thier terms and they will try to keep your money also. So unlimted calling, I think not.

Lack of porting
Cheap phone service, that offers almost any number you want - except your current number..
They have been saying since 2007-08 that porting is coming soon. Now (so they say) they are supposed to be "beta testing" LOL! I suppose we'll hear this line for a couple off years. So lets get this strait.. I can "oreder" any off the wall numer from them and get it, but they are still not sure if they can give me my simple old phone number.

Blocked Service
Start on or about 12-November-2010 Magicjack has started blocking most inbound long distant calls and is blaming the long distance carriers.

This is MagicJack answer to the issue:

If you are getting a message stating "Your number is being identified as a local number when it is a long distance number", you need to call your long distance carrier and tell them to route your call properly. For you convenience, we have provided some common long distance carriers' phone numbers below: Sprint 866-866-7509 MetroPCS 888-863-8768 AT&T 800-331-0500 T-Mobile 877-878-7326 Verizon 718-890-1800 Sprint 800-639-6111 Cricket 800-274-2538 Optimum Lightpath 866-611-3434 Comcast 800-266-2278 Verizon 800-837-4966 Bell Mobility 800-667-0123 Comcast 888-266-2278 For all other providers please check your monthly statement for their contact information.

As I can dial other long distance numbers from the same phone to the same area code where the magicjack powered phone is it shows me the magicjack is full of it. I cannot believe that it is the long distance carriers fault. That would imply that the conspired together to cause this issue.

registration problems
I just got done spending an hour trying to register with them. During the process there was a number of times that pop up ads appeared which caused me to get a California phone number. I would have preferred a number from state I live in Georgia.

I tried to get it changed through their live chat but to no luck. They even “hung up on me” since they would help.

So I wouldn’t recommend Majicjack.

Termination
Service was terminated "at their discretion." There is "NO SUCH THING AS UNLIMITED CALLS" We made over 200 calls on unit when we first installed it, then had to go through the process again in 90 days and our service was terminated ( after about 75 calls) due to the number of calls. Even though their advertising states "UNLIMITED CALLS" their Terms of Service states not over 50 A DAY. Talk about false advertising... Stay away. Second unit was terminated by magicJack the next day after 20 calls were placed within 90 minutes. These calls were not being done via an automated dialer. A REAL person sitting and calling our customers. This company (magicJack) does not want to work with companies.

Does not work properly
MAGICJACK WILL RUIN YOUR BUSINESS do NOT buy this product and above all DO NOT USE THIS FOR YOUR BUSINESS.

From the beginning, Magicjack has not worked properly. I spent nearly 15 - 20 hours with their customer service to try to get the device to work properly. Whenever clients call, the connection is never clear, it is always filled with static. I can't count how many sales calls / potential clients were lost (not to count lost man hours which are very valuable running a business) because of Magicjack.

The only solutions the customer service ever gave me was install an update, delete and reinstall drivers. These never worked, no matter how many times I did them.

So I gave up on Magicjack, and decided to keep the number and use the forwarding feature only. THEN recently (within the past two weeks) the forwarding feature has started failing, it fixes, then fails, then fixes, then fails...

I was on vacation (on my honeymoon) for the past week +, got back, and realized Magicjack's call forwarding had failed. The business missed 1.5 weeks of client calls, numerous dollars worth of potential business down the tubes. I still speak with them, and they give me the same fixes as before, which of course won't work.

From a business owner, DO NOT buy this product, they'll cost you way more money than the savings you're "supposedly" going to get.

Customer Service, Faulty Product
I wish I had found this site before I purchased this thing! My first MagicJack was fried when we had a lightening storm. I sucked it up and paid for the shipping on a second one.

One month later, the magicJack failed again. I went to customer support, talked to three different agents, two of them "top 10% rating" (whatever THAT means!) and did the exact same stuff that the first "agent" walked me through. I was then told that the problem was from their new upgrade and that I would need to contact them at a later date. The agent very quickly ended the conversation. I spent 1 1/2 hours with them and got absolutely nowhere.

Today, I decided to try it one more time. Did the exact same stuff as last time with two different agents. When I said that I didn't have time for all of this and that I had to get to work, she ended the conversation. I have been without a phone for three days. I have a home-based business and completely relied on MagicJack to keep me connected. Three days without a phone!!! Ugh! I'm looking into other possibilities for inexpensive phone connection.
