My husband ( 6'3 tall and weighing 250 lbs) and I (5'8 and 160 lbs) tried both the generic memory foam and then the Tempurpedic New Deluxe memory foam mattress. Great initial comfort for shoulder/hips, but in the mornings, both of us had lower back aches. After 75 nights, the back pain was so intense and lasted all day even with P/T, stretches for hours and back/stomache muscle strengthening exercises. So we switched to an ultra firm S/F. We immediately had 75% less lower back pain on day one! Then I added a 1- 1/4 inch foam topper which relieved my shoulder/hip/neck pain. After 5 "soft" mattresses, the firm is best for us at 49 and 50 years of age.
