Across Cape Breton, Moncton Septic Services focuses on septic pump repair and replacement for systems that lift effluent from the tank to the disposal field. Failed effluent pumps are found, diagnosed and replaced. Signs include a high-water alarm, a tripped breaker on the pump circuit, a pump running non-stop or not at all, and backups despite recent pumping. Since a dead pump can cause backups identical to those of a failed field, the pump is checked before any field is dug up. This community in Moncton Parish, east-northeast of Irishtown, was settled around 1835 by immigrants from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and from Scotland. Its rural lots outside Moncton's city limits rely on on-site septic systems. Each system is designed around its site, from conventional in-ground fields to raised systems where shallow bedrock, heavy clay or a high water table make a pump necessary. Related services include septic tank replacement and septic site assessment. Work also extends to Irishtown, Boundary Creek and Lutes Mountain.
