credit card billing after item refused
I signed up for a TRIAL of Premium White Pro tooth whitener for $2.95. They called me the next morning to try to persuade me to try the full version for $87.62 per month. I absolutely refused the offer, but they sent a product, which I thought was my trial ( a small pen with some peroxide gel in it). I was subsequently billed on December 5th and 15th for $87.62 each. When I got the bill I immediately called them, and they said it was too late to return the product, and I would have to pay for it. I argued with them, asked to speak to a supervisor, which they refused to do. I refused the 2nd package from them, and called them today. They said they would refund the price of that product, but not the first one. The refund has not appeared on my credit card yet.

False advertising
You've seen those teeth whitener ads on different web pages. Some will take you to Premium White. For me, someone on Craigslist sent me a message saying the item I asked about was gone but I could have a free sample sent for a small shipping charge if I use a "special" code. (I think that code gives this person a kickback fee someway for any sucker she sends their way.) I read the "terms and conditions" that said I had a 14 day trial membership after which I'd be charged 89 bucks or so per month. I thought OK I'll get the trial and cancel most likely. Day 13 nothing had come in the mail. Next day was Thanksgiving so I knew I'd better cancel since nothing is delivered on Thanksgiving. I phoned and said to cancel but to do that I had to "speak to a supervisor" since I was asking for a "refund". I told him I hadn't gotten anything and he offerred to "reship" but by that time I was gun shy. He did cancel it - tho I still got charged the $1.95. Two weeks later I get a package from Aurora Colorado - no company name. After checking Terms and Conditions again I saw that is were it comes from so I didn't open it and wrote "REFUSED" on the package and then didn't have to pay postage to have it returned by the Post Office. Just today - 1/19/10 - I got an email confirming I had canceled. When you agree to terms that let them charge your credit card until you cancel - you're going to get taken every time because now it's up to you to track them down and try to reach them. They can make them selves hard to reach.
