My elderly mentally ill mother owns her house free and clear, receives a widow pension that allows her to pay all of her bills. She has no need for a reverse mortgage loan. She passed the phone to me to ask questions about the loan papers she just signed. I asked the loan officer was he "100% certain" that there are no other upfront fees associated with this loan? He said "absolutely none". 2 weeks later, he calls back telling her that she has to speak with a counselor for 1hr. The counselor asked for $75.00 for his services. Next, he asked to pay another $75.00 for documentation fees. My mother is upset now and passed the phone to me again. Now, I am asking what happens to the rest of the equity in her home if she passes. He said I quote. "THEN YOU KIDS CAN ALL FIGHT OVER IT". I spoke to my sister about it, she told me that she is the power of attorney for my mom and told those ppl to cease all communication with her weeks ago. They would not quit! And I am thinking. What in the hell are these ppl doing sending my mom more papers. They just don't quit.
