I had no idea that these companies could do this. I just so happened to watch on the news the other day that the statue of limitations is now 4 years to try and collect old debt. I received a letter from RJM from an acct back in 1999 that belonged to my deceased husband, saying that I have 3 options of paying off this debt to Wells Fargo for incifficient funds. It gets better... forget the fact that the account owner has passed away over 2 years ago, if infact he was alive the statue has run out and no activity or payments have been made on this account so in essence I have to do nothing. I sent them a Cease to stop contacting me, copied all the scam reports that I could find about RJM, and quoted the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Law of the 4 year statue of limitations... Hopefully this will put an end to their trying to collect.
