During the month of November 2008 I had occasion to use my stated VISA to guarantee a hotel reservation in MtPleasant, IA. The hotelier was informed that the credit card was to guarantee the reservation only and the transaction would be finalized in cash on check out. The bill was paid as stated. On receipt of my monthly statement in December 2008 it was noted that my card had been charged against my wishes. Three days of attempting to contact the hotel operator after he failed to return my calls was resulted in them admitting a "mistake" and credit would be issued. After weeks of frustration I contacted the local police department in MtPleasant and filed a complaint. As it turned out the credit was issued, although somewhat tardily, and was finally posted to my account o/a 15 Jan.2009. The initial debit was posted within ten hours of checking in. The credit posting took approx. ten days during which I filed an undeserved police complaint and reported them to the BBB and Chamber of Commerce in local area. This was defended as "normal" business practice by VISA but made me look like a pure damn fool! They got their money in ten hours and I got my refund in ten days. How say you?
