charges not explained
I had joined vonage bout 6 months ago to try and save on telephone bills and when I finally received all of the equipment and connected it, everything seemed to work fine at first. Then as time went on I found out there was some things I couldnt do with their service like check voice mail on a cell phone and about 80% of the time when I was on the phone, there was a lot of air through the fone. That sound wasnt there before I had them connected. Finally I had enough and went to my local cable provider and then I called vonage to cancell service to only find out I would have to pay 80 dollars for the stupid box they sent, they failed to tell me this when I signed up with them if you cancell sooner than later, not one person told me this and when I tried to cancel, they are like car salesmen, they keep on and on trying to get you to stay which finally I had to say listen jerk cancel my service, and I also told them where they could put that $80, so their service is terrible plus it doesnt work well with networking pc's in ur home, at least it didnt with mine..I DONT ADVISE ANYONE GETTING VONAGE, I wouldnt on my worse enemy

Fraud
Started subscription to Vonage in October 2007. I had been a subscriber to AT&T for years but the cheap prices lured me over. Was that a huge mistake!
The first complaint was constant breaking up of the voice. Either from my end or the receiving end. I called and I went though some procedures with a individual I could hardly understand. He got that working to some degree.
A month or so after that I got a call from a friend on my cell phone that said they had been trying to get a hold of us for days. I tried my Vonage phone with my cell phone and although it was ringing in the cell it sure wasn't ringing at the house. Again we went through the same procedure with questionable results but they did get it ringing again.
Finally the three strikes and your out theory the phone rang and as soon as it was answered it disconnected. I again called from my cell and as soon as my wife answered it disconnected on her and I got data noise in the cell phone. I reset the Vonage modem and that stopped the disconnect but the breaking up of the voice started all over again.
Now the kicker. I called and disconnected service. They said because I hadn't been in service for three years they were billing me $114.89 disconnect fee. I NEVER agreed to such nonsense and told them NOT to bill my checkcard for the sum. They did it anyway. Now I've got the bank to go through and reverse the charges.
If you're going to subscribe to Vonage you're in for the telephone service from hell.

Unfair
My Samsung t-629 under warranty stopped working suddenly. I called customer support and they said as long as there is no physical damage, it will be covered. I took it to t-mobile authorized dealer and it was seen by two -three sales personnel and they were surprised that the phone stopped working as there was no physical damage.
After I received the new phone, t-mobile says there is physical damage and they are literally forcing to pay 100 dollars. Customer support and their next level literally ask you to shut up and pay politely. Now I do not have a chance to prove that there was no physical damage. I feel it is very unfair.

Unbelievable
The first time I called Vonage to cancel my service, I was told that the 'system was down' and that my account couldn't be accessed. This seemed strange to me because the customer service representative had asked me for my account information and my verification code before telling me that the system was down. After I gave her that information and her system confirmed it to be correct, I told her that I wanted to cancel the account. At that point she told me that the system was down and to call back later.
The second time that I called Vonage to cancel my service, I was told that an account manager was not available to cancel my service and that I would have to call back Monday.
The third time that I called Vonage to to cancel my service, I was told by the first representative that the 'system was upgrading.' This seemed even stranger because just like the first time, the representative had asked me for my account information and my verification code before telling me that the system was down. After that information was confirmed by the system, I was told that the system was down while being upgraded. Wow.
I asked for a supervisor. Same story. I asked for somebody higher up. When I told that person that I wasn't going to call back but contest the credit card charge because I had attempted three times to cancel the service, he told me that the system was back up. Unbelievable.
After reading the posts about Vonage and after my experience, I am convinced that they should be investigated.

Unreasonable Charges
I tried Vonage service based on their 30-day money back guarantee claim. It took Vonage 17 days to port my existing number. I tried their service for 10 days and wasn't happy with the quality and feature set, so I switched to another VoIP carrier. Because the number porting into and out of Vonage took a combined 25 days, the entire process exceeded their 30-day window. They should explicitly spell out the fact that their 30-day guarantee period equals 5 days of actual use. As a result, I have been charged a $39.99 disconnection fee.
While I am not happy about the $39.99 fee, I will not dispute that charge. What I am disputing is the $79.99+tax "Rebate Recovery Fee" that they charged me for their re-conditioned Vonage VoIP telephone adapter. I used it for 10 days! I kept all of the original materials and packaging and requested a return authorization number so that I could return the device. I was told by customer service that they could not accept it beyond the 30-day window.
Had I requested it before my number ported to another carrier, however, I would have lost my number as Vonage would have pre-maturely canceled my service before the porting completed.
This company misleads its customers and then charges twice what their equipment is worth (new) to punish customers who leave their service before a 12 month time period has elapsed.

Disconnect Fee
When I signed up for vonage my main concern was a disconnection fee. I was assured I could terminate at any time without a disconnect fee. I received a bill for $127.78. I feel their representatives will say anything to make you sign up. Please look into this deceptive practice. Thank you.

Unauthorized charges
On March 13, Vonage removed my international calling plan (Basic World Plan) without my consent. According to the advertisement, the Basic World plan is a plan that features Unlimited Calling to17 countries/cities. I have been using this plan without any issue for more than a year. However I was told recently by Vonage that the calling plan is only limited to 500 international minutes, since my usage is over the limit, the plan needs to be removed from my account. Needless to say, this 500 minutes limit of the unlimited calling plan is unheard of, neither is it stated in their terms of service, nor can it be found in their web site www.vonage.com. The deceiving advertisement, Unlimited Calling to17 countries/cities, enticed me to become a Vonage customer. I told Vonage to cancel my service if there is any change of the original terms. However Vonage discontinued my international calling plan but kept my residential plan, and still charged me the full rate of both plans (residential plus international.) My calls to the customer service to reinstate my international calling plan have fallen on deaf ears put on hold for long time and then dropped. I called Vonage again and made it clear that if they can not reinstate the international calling plan they need to discontinue my service altogether. I was charged a $39.99 cancellation fee even Vonage initiated the cancellation of my calling plan. Vonage advertisement is deceptive unlimited calling plan with a limit of 500 minutes that are not stated in any of their terms of service. The service charges are fraudulent continuing to charge the Basic World Plan that has been removed from my account, and cancellation fee when service discontinuation is actually initiated by Vonage.
