We have a Whirlpool 25 cuft side by side with the ice dispenser in the door. Power was off for a period, and the ice in the bucket began to thaw. It then ran down the shaft that turns the dispenser bar into the motor. Cost for repair was $183. When the tech broght the new part (and this can also be found on line that there is a new part number for replacement) the motor was identical. Difference was the kit now included a large rubberized washer that slides over the end of the shaft to keep water from running into the motor. This tells me Whirlpool recognized the design deficiency, fixed it for replacements, but didn't do a recall, nor send out the rubber washer to be installed. Hence as a consumer I'm out just under $200 bucks for a design deficiency by the company.
