My car was totaled and the GAP insurance did not cover the whole amount of the loan. Santander lowered my monthly payments to "help me out". The new amount due was $193.01 a month. I received a letter from them stating if I made the payment beginning in September 2010 and each month thereafter I would be current on my account and my loan would be paid off in 2013.
