I was looking at rentals-they brought me to an apartment that was supposed to be being painted and carpets cleaned etc. It looked real nice and smelt of paint. There were drop cloths on all of the rugs in the center conveniently covering up the carpet. They told me that if I liked it I should put my deposit down on it as they were going to be showing it the next day. At the same time the realtor said that they were going to be cleaning it and shampooing the carpets and getting it really nice and ready to go.
