Under the new debit card useage law, overdraft fees are not permitted on debit card purchases unless the customer decides to opt into the banks' overdraft protection service. Well, I had declined it. In that case, the $2.31 purchase I made should have been declined. Because the purchase was for gasoline (I was filling a gas can), the gas station pegged a $75 debit upon turning on the pump.
